Project Description

Top Deck Parking Repair - Terminal 3, Pearson Airport
Concrete Cracks Floor Repair

The surface of the concrete had a lot of cracks, which are marked in blue in the pictures.

A conventional method called for demolition of the floors surface and casting of new concrete.

After general surface cleaning, the large cracks were ¼ inch saw cut to clear the cavity of all debris.

The cracks were filled in with Polyforce Plus and Sand mix.

The entire surface was treated with a roll on application of Polyforce Hardener for increased protection. The thin molecular structure of this polymer material allows for a deep concreted permeation.
This application turns the top 15 millimeters of the concrete surface into a composite polymer material impermeable to moisture and shielded from the elements.

The surface was finished with a simple concrete polish / shave.

Technical Details

Even though the concrete looks exposed, Polyforce Hardener, which resides underneath of the surface, provides a long lasting much needed protection.

Facts:

According to third party testing, the repaired surfaces are rated to:

Polyforce Plus

  • 25 years of useful life
  • 0% water permeation
  • Polyforce Plus is rated to expand and contract with concrete
  • The entire surface and volume of the slab is "monolithic"
  • Compressive strength of 85 MPa
  • Polyforce Plus mixed with Basalt reaches a compressive strength of 150 MPa
  • Adhesive strength of 1.85 MPa (original concrete has only 1.2 MPa of a tensile strength, so the bond is stronger than the concrete itself)
  • Repair is 60% cost of a traditional repair
