This product is primarily used as a base sheet in multi-layer roofing assemblies, offering both waterproofing and structural support.
System Components:
The 2-1 SOPRASMART FB panel is composed of two main components:
1. SBS Modified Bitumen Membrane – Reinforced with non-woven polyester and surfaced with a thermofusible plastic film.
2. High-Density Fire-Resistant Fibreboard – Serves as the support panel, providing rigidity and fire resistance.
This base sheet is typically used in conjunction with other SOPREMA roofing products such as SOPRALAP for end lap reinforcement and DUOTACK adhesives or SOPREMA mechanical fasteners for secure installation. The DUO SELVEDGE feature on the side laps includes a self-adhered section and a torch-applied section for enhanced seam integrity.
Applications:
2-1 SOPRASMART FB is intended for use in commercial and industrial roofing systems, particularly in multi-ply SBS-modified bitumen assemblies. It is suitable for installation over steel decks and other approved substrates, and it meets the requirements for fire resistance and wind uplift performance when installed according to SOPREMA guidelines.
Application Details:
- Installation Methods:
- *Hot Bitumen:* Applied using SEBS or oxidized bitumen with a mop.
- *Adhesive:* Installed using DUOTACK adhesive.
- *Mechanical Fastening:* Fastened with SOPREMA screws and plates, especially over steel decks. Fasteners must be placed on the top flanges of the steel deck ribs.
- Lap Treatment: Side laps feature DUO SELVEDGE – the first portion is self-adhered, and the second portion is sealed with a propane torch. End laps must be aligned and covered with SOPRALAP membrane.

Special Notes:
- Environmental Conditions: The product must be stored flat and protected from weather. If stored outdoors, it must be covered with an opaque protective cover.
- Fire and Wind Ratings: Meets ANSI/UL 790 and CAN/ULC-S107 fire resistance standards. Wind uplift resistance depends on the fastening method and must comply with CSA A123.21 or FM 4470 (RoofNav) standards.
- Thermal Resistance: R-value of 3 per inch (RSI 0.53)
- Water Absorption: Less than 6% by volume
- UV Resistance: The product is not UV-stable and must be covered with a cap sheet or other UV-resistant top layer in the roofing system.
- Compatibility: Designed to be used as part of a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is not intended for use as a standalone waterproofing layer.
- Limitations: Not suitable for direct exposure to UV or as a final roofing surface. Must be installed by trained professionals following SOPREMA guidelines.
