Material Use:
ALSAN RS 230 FIELD is a high-performance, two-component, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based liquid membrane used for waterproofing applications. It is designed to be used in conjunction with ALSAN RS FLEECE to create a monolithic, self-adhering, and self-flashing reinforced membrane. This system is ideal for use in new construction, tear-off, and recovery projects, particularly in roofing, balconies, plaza decks, fountains, and pond applications.
System Components:
The ALSAN RS 230 FIELD system includes the following components:
- Primer: ALSAN RS 222 PRIMER or ALSAN RS 276 PRIMER, selected based on substrate type.
- Base and Top Coat: ALSAN RS 230 FIELD resin, applied in two coats (base and top).
- Reinforcement: ALSAN RS FLEECE, embedded between the two coats of resin.
- Catalyst: ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER, used to initiate the curing process of the resin.
Applications:
This system is suitable for waterproofing horizontal and vertical surfaces in exposed or protected assemblies. Typical applications include:
- Flat and low-slope roofs
- Balconies and terraces
- Plaza decks
- Water features such as fountains and ponds
Application Details:
- Surface Preparation: Substrates must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. A primer is typically required.
- Mixing: Resin must be mixed with ALSAN RS CATALYST POWDER for 2–3 minutes before application. Only mix the amount that can be applied within 10–15 minutes.
- Application Method: Apply using rollers, brushes, or notched squeegees. Embed ALSAN RS FLEECE into the wet base coat, then apply the top coat.
- Coverage Rates: Varies by surface profile:
- Smooth (CSP 1): 6.5 m² (70 ft²) per 20 kg unit; total thickness 2.5 mm (98 mils)
- Typical (CSP 3-4): 6.1 m² (66 ft²); total thickness 2.7 mm (106 mils)
- Granulated (CSP 5): 5.2 m² (57 ft²); total thickness 3.1 mm (122 mils)
- Rough (CSP 6): 4.6 m² (50 ft²); total thickness 3.6 mm (140 mils)
Special Notes:
- Temperature Limits: Application temperatures vary by formulation:
- Winter Formulation: -5 °C to 20 °C (23 °F to 68 °F)
- Summer Formulation: 10 °C to 35 °C (50 °F to 95 °F)
- Pot Life: 10–15 minutes after mixing with catalyst
- Rain Proof Time: 15–20 minutes
- Set Time / Walkable / Next Layer: 60–90 minutes (summer), 90–120 minutes (winter)
- Full Cure Time: 3–6 hours (summer), 5 hours (winter)
- UV Resistance: ALSAN RS 230 FIELD is UV stable after cure
- VOC Content: < 5 g/L, making it a low-VOC product
- Thickness Limits: Wet and dry thicknesses are equivalent; total system thickness ranges from 2.5 mm to 3.6 mm (98–140 mils) depending on substrate profile
- Storage: Store indoors at 13 °C to 27 °C (55 °F to 80 °F); shelf life is 12 months in original container
- Solar Reflectance (CRRC Ratings):
- Bright White: SRI 109 (initial), 88 (3 years)
- Pebble Grey: SRI 36 (initial), 35 (3 years)
This system provides excellent elongation, tear resistance, and low-temperature flexibility, making it suitable for demanding waterproofing applications. It is also resistant to water absorption, vapor permeance, and static puncture, ensuring long-term durability.
