ALSAN TF 801 is a fine, inert, fibrous white powder used as a thickening agent to modify the viscosity of various epoxy and polyurethane-based resins within the ALSAN FLOOR EP, ALSAN CIVIL, and ALSAN TRAFIK product lines. It is primarily used to enhance the application properties of these resins, enabling them to be used for specific functions such as crack filling, vertical surface waterproofing, and textured finish applications.
System Components:
ALSAN TF 801 is not a standalone system but is used in conjunction with the following SOPREMA resin systems:
- ALSAN FLOOR EP 440: Used with ALSAN TF 801 to create an “orange peel” textured finish or as a crack filler.
- ALSAN FLOOR EP 101: Used with ALSAN TF 801 to increase viscosity for crack filling.
- ALSAN TRAFIK PU 122: Used with ALSAN TF 801 for crack filling applications.
- ALSAN CIVIL 773: Used with ALSAN TF 801 to increase viscosity for waterproofing vertical substrates and detailing in civil engineering applications.
Applications:
ALSAN TF 801 is suitable for indoor applications and civil engineering works. It is used to:
- Create a textured “orange peel” finish on floor coatings.
- Increase the viscosity of resins for use as crack fillers.
- Enable vertical and detailed waterproofing applications by thickening the resin to prevent sagging or dripping.
Application Details:
- Mixing: ALSAN TF 801 must be mixed using a mechanical stirrer at low speed (200–400 rpm). It should be added gradually over 15 seconds to avoid lump formation and mixed for 2 minutes.
- Dosage: The amount of ALSAN TF 801 added depends on the resin type and intended use. For example:
- For “orange peel” texture with ALSAN FLOOR EP 440: 12 SOPREMA cups (480 g) per 18.6 L of resin.
- For crack filling with ALSAN FLOOR EP 101, EP 440, or TRAFIK PU 122: 3 SOPREMA cups (120 g) per 2 L of resin.
- For vertical waterproofing with ALSAN CIVIL 773: 4% by mass or 1:0.75 volume ratio.
- Environmental Conditions: The addition rate should be adjusted based on ambient temperature. Lower temperatures require less ALSAN TF 801, while higher temperatures may require more to achieve the same viscosity.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place between 10 °C and 25 °C (50 °F to 77 °F). Shelf life is up to 3 years in unopened containers.
Special Notes:
- ALSAN TF 801 does not alter the curing time of the resins it is mixed with.
- Excessive addition may reduce gloss and adhesive properties and may cause clear resins to appear whitish.
- Always perform a site test to determine the optimal amount of ALSAN TF 801 for specific conditions such as substrate roughness, slope, and temperature.
- Do not mix manually; always use mechanical stirring to ensure proper dispersion.
Coverage and Thickness Guidelines:
- When used to create an “orange peel” texture with ALSAN FLOOR EP 440 at 15 mils (381 µm) thickness, a full 18.6 L kit mixed with ALSAN TF 801 covers approximately 49 m² (527 ft²).
- Coverage and thickness may vary depending on surface roughness and application technique.
