Description

Aromatic Binder AR is a polyurethane adhesive designed for rebonding recycled foam such as carpet pad. It may be used for other materials such as vinyl, wood, and fabric. It can be used for curing by steam or heat as well as ambient curing.

Material Use

Aromatic Binder AR is a single-component, MDI-based polyurethane adhesive specifically formulated for rebonding recycled foam materials, such as carpet pads. It also adheres to vinyl, wood, and fabric substrates. It is suitable for use in both ambient and heat or steam-curing processes, offering versatility for various bonding applications.

System Components

This product is a standalone adhesive and not part of a multi-layer coating system. It does not require primers or topcoats, as its primary function is to act as a binder or adhesive for composite and foam materials.

Applications

Typical applications include the production or repair of rebonded foam products, carpet pad manufacturing, or bonding fabric and wood in laminated structures. It is ideal for industrial processes involving recycled or engineered substrates where strong adhesion and flexibility are required.

Application Details

The substrate and Aromatic Binder AR must be evenly mixed before application. Usage rates range from 5% to 20% by weight, depending on the substrate and process conditions. Cure time is influenced by environmental conditions—higher temperatures and humidity levels accelerate curing, whereas low temperature and humidity slow it down. The product appears light amber to clear and has a viscosity of approximately 1500 cps at 80°F (26°C). VOC content is 0 g/L, making it a solvent-free option.

Special Notes

·       Curing Conditions: Can be cured with steam, heat, or at ambient temperature.

·       Temperature & Storage: Optimal storage temperature is 75–95°F (23–35°C). Shelf life is 12 months in unopened containers if stored within this temperature range and protected from moisture.

·       Environmental Limits: Cure rate is humidity and temperature-dependent.

·       UV Stability: No information is provided about UV stability; likely not UV resistant, thus not suitable for exposed applications.

·       Safety: Contains isocyanates; use with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Avoid inhalation and skin/eye contact.
