Description

SIZE: 20-gal set

FLEX CASTING 36A is a 2-component elastomeric

Casting Resin designed to produce dimensionally

stable, high impact and flexible coating material.

FLEX CASTING 36A provides excellent impact

resistance, working time, flexibility and strength. It

is highly chemical resistant, insensitive to water,

and remains thermally stable in a range of -20°F (-

29°C) to 150°F (65°C). FLEX CASTING 36A is

designed for pour application in molds, joints, or

voids. FLEX CASTING 36A may also be used as a

flexible membrane coating system depending on

application needs. FLEX CASTING 36A contains

zero solvents.

Material Use:

FLEX CASTING 36A is a two-component elastomeric casting resin designed for high-impact and flexible coatings. It is intended for use in both casting and coating applications including expansion joint filling, mold casting, and membrane systems. It is dimensionally stable, abrasion-resistant, and exhibits high chemical resistance and flexibility, making it suitable for industrial flooring and joint applications in demanding environments.

System Components:

FLEX CASTING 36A consists of Side-A and Side-B components mixed in a 1:3 volume ratio. It is a 100% solids, zero-VOC aromatic polyurea system. Color pigments, when used, should be added to Part B. It may be installed using either a plural component metering pump with static mixer or by manual hand mixing.

Applications:

Typical uses include expansion joints, warehouse and cold storage floors, parking decks, food-processing plants, walkways, balconies, and open mold castings. It is especially suitable for applications requiring a combination of flexibility, abrasion resistance, and chemical durability.

Application Details:

FLEX CASTING 36A must be applied to clean, dry concrete surfaces cured for a minimum of 28 days. It should be applied at ambient temperatures above 70°F. For joint fill applications, the material should be overfilled and then shaved flush with the slab after curing. Joints under 1" depth can be filled in one pass; deeper joints require a two-pass method. Plural component equipment or hand mixing is acceptable, but all mixing must be done within the 15–20 minute pot life. Constant pressure during application is essential to maintain material properties.

Special Notes:

  • Pot Life: 15–20 minutes
  • Cure Time at 72°F: 4–6 hours
  • Return to Service: 8–12 hours
  • Service Temperature Range: -20°F to 150°F
  • UV Stability: Not UV stable; may yellow and chalk with exposure to sunlight. Dark colors are recommended for better UV resistance. If color stability is required, consult manufacturer for alternative products.
  • Application Temperature Range: Material must be at least 70°F before application. Heating may be required in low ambient temperatures.
  • Coverage Rates: Depends on joint size; e.g., for a ½" x ½" joint, one gallon covers approximately 77 linear feet (see table on page 1 of the TDS).
  • Viscosity: 800 ± 200 cps (Side A); 1000 ± 100 cps (Side B)
  • Hardness: 36 ± 5 Shore A
  • Tensile Strength: 1000 ± 150 psi
  • Elongation: 500% ± 50%
  • Tear Strength: 200 PLI
  • Shelf Life: 12 months (in original sealed containers stored at 60–95°F)
  • Thickness Limit: Not specified in mils; application is measured by joint dimensions and volume filled.

This material is particularly suitable as a flexible joint fill or casting medium in environments with significant movement or impact stress, such as industrial and food-grade floors.
