Description
CCS Coating, AC - 1 For Asphalt is a two-component, semi-flexible, epoxy coating with excellent resistance to aircraft and automotive chemicals including jet fuel, gasoline, hydraulic fluids (e.g., Skydrol, brake fluid), anti-freeze and battery acid. When seeded or blended with aggregate, it can be used on properly prepared new and old asphalt pavements to provide a traffic surface with excellent skid resistance and wear characteristics.

Material Use:
CCS Coating, AC-1 is a two-component, semi-flexible epoxy coating designed to protect asphalt pavements from chemical exposure. It is particularly suited for areas exposed to automotive and aircraft fluids, including jet fuel, gasoline, Skydrol, antifreeze, and battery acid. It enhances wear and skid resistance and is used in applications such as aircraft aprons, gas station areas, walkways, loading bays, and industrial floors.
System Components:
- Two components: Part A (resin) and Part B (hardener) mixed at a 1:1 ratio by volume.
- Aggregate may be broadcast onto the second coat for skid resistance (recommended sizes: #20 x 40 or #30 x 50 mesh).
Applications:
Ideal for heavy-duty environments including:
- Aircraft parking aprons
- Around gasoline pumps
- Industrial asphalt floors
- Walkways and ramps
Application Details:
- Apply two coats to achieve a total thickness of 40 mils minimum.
- First coat coverage: 105 sq ft/gal (15 mils) using a 3/8" nap roller or squeegee.
- Second coat coverage: 64 sq ft/gal (25 mils) using a V-notch trowel or squeegee.
- Allow the first coat to become tacky (4–7 hours at 70°F) before applying the second coat.
- Broadcast aggregate within 15 minutes of applying the second coat.
- Allow 12–16 hours cure time before opening to traffic. If pavement temperature is below 60°F, delay heavy traffic use for an additional 8 hours.
Special Notes:
- Environmental Limits: Install only when pavement temperature is above 50°F. Ensure the substrate is dry and free of hydrostatic pressure.
- Chemical Resistance: Highly resistant to common chemicals, but prolonged exposure to gasohol and polyether glycol-based brake fluids is not recommended.
- UV Stability: Does not embrittle under direct sunlight, though color may change (black lightens, gray turns sandy).
- Pot Life/Gel Time: 30 minutes for 200 g mix at 73°F.
- Shelf Life: Minimum three years in unopened containers stored between 60–90°F.
- Viscosity: Mixed system has a viscosity of 1600 cps.
- Cured Properties: Tensile strength of 2000 psi, 40% elongation, Taber Abrasion loss of 168 mg.
- Packaging: Available in 2, 10, and 100-gallon kits; standard colors are black and concrete gray (blue-gray).
- VOC Compliance: Solvent-free and environmentally safe.
This material is designed for asphalt use only and must not be applied to damp or hydrostatically active substrates. It offers rapid installation and curing, making it suitable for time-sensitive projects.
