Description
Heat-weldable base sheet membrane composed of SBS modified bitumen and a glass mat reinforcement.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM is a high-performance SBS-modified bituminous base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing and waterproofing systems. It is primarily used as the base ply in torch-applied roofing assemblies, offering excellent dimensional stability and flexibility in cold temperatures.
System Components:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed using heat-welding (torch application) and is designed to be overlaid with a compatible SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet, such as SOPRALENE FLAM or ELASTOPHENE FLAM CAP. The system may also include a primer (such as SOPREMA ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL 500) applied to the substrate to enhance adhesion, especially on concrete or wood decks.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in commercial, industrial, and residential roofing applications where a durable, torch-applied waterproofing base layer is required. It is ideal for both new construction and re-roofing projects and can be applied over various substrates, including concrete, wood, and existing bituminous membranes.
Application Details:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM is installed by heat-welding with a propane torch. The membrane is supplied in rolls measuring 10 m x 1 m (33 ft x 3.3 ft) and features a 75 mm (3 in) selvedge edge to facilitate side lap welding. Both the top and bottom surfaces are covered with a thermofusible plastic film that melts during torching to ensure proper adhesion. The minimum thickness of the membrane is 3.0 mm (118 mils), and it has a mass of at least 3.8 kg/m² (80 lb/100 ft²). The back surface coating thickness is ≥ 1.0 mm (≥ 40 mils), ensuring robust waterproofing performance.
Special Notes:
- Temperature & Weather Limitations: Installation should be performed in dry weather conditions. The membrane maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (0 °F), making it suitable for cold climates. However, torching should not be performed in high winds or during precipitation.
- UV Resistance: ELASTOPHENE FLAM is not UV-stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protective surfacing.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover to prevent UV degradation and moisture infiltration.
- Compatibility: This membrane is compatible with other SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen products and should be used in conjunction with SOPREMA primers and cap sheets for optimal performance.
- Thickness Limits: Minimum thickness is 3.0 mm (118 mils); no maximum thickness is specified, but it must be used as part of a multi-layer system.
- Curing Time: As a torch-applied membrane, ELASTOPHENE FLAM does not require curing time; adhesion is achieved immediately upon proper heat-welding.
This product is a foundational component in SOPREMA’s SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems and should always be used in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and local building codes.
