Description
Heat-weldable base sheet membrane composed of SBS modified bitumen and a glass mat reinforcement.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM 2.2 is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing and waterproofing systems. It is primarily used as a base ply in torch-applied roofing assemblies, offering excellent dimensional stability and resistance to thermal shock and mechanical stress.
System Components:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM 2.2 is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed in conjunction with a compatible cap sheet membrane, such as SOPRALENE FLAM or ELASTOPHENE FLAM cap sheets, which are also torch-applied. The system may include a primer (such as SOPREMA ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL 500) applied to the substrate to enhance adhesion, especially on concrete or wood decks. The base sheet is heat-welded directly to the primed substrate or to an approved vapor barrier or insulation board.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in commercial, industrial, and institutional roofing applications. It is ideal for both new construction and re-roofing projects where a durable, torch-applied SBS-modified bitumen system is required. It can be applied over various substrates including concrete, wood, and approved insulation boards.
Application Details:
ELASTOPHENE FLAM 2.2 is installed using a propane torch in a heat-welded application. The membrane is rolled out and heated on the underside until the thermofusible plastic film melts, allowing it to bond to the substrate or underlying membrane. The membrane features a 75 mm (3 in) selvedge edge to ensure proper overlap and sealing between adjacent rolls. The minimum thickness of the membrane is 2.2 mm (87 mils), and it maintains this thickness even after heat conditioning. The back surface includes a thermofusible plastic film that facilitates torch application.
Special Notes:
- Temperature & Weather Conditions: Installation should be performed in dry weather conditions. While the TDS does not specify exact temperature limits for installation, torch-applied membranes are generally not recommended for application in temperatures below 0°C (32°F) or during high humidity or precipitation.
- UV Resistance: ELASTOPHENE FLAM 2.2 is not UV-stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protective surfacing.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover to prevent UV degradation and moisture infiltration.
- Thickness & Coverage: The membrane has a nominal thickness of 2.2 mm (87 mils) and a mass per unit area of 2.9 kg/m² (60 lb/100 ft²). Each roll measures 15 m x 1 m (49 ft x 3.3 ft), covering approximately 49 m² (527 ft²) before accounting for overlaps.
- Performance Characteristics: The membrane exhibits excellent low-temperature flexibility down to -18°C (0°F), high compound stability up to 107°C (225°F), and strong mechanical properties including peak load resistance and elongation.
This product is a key component in SOPREMA’s SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems and should always be used in conjunction with compatible primers, cap sheets, and accessories to ensure long-term performance and warranty compliance.
