Description
High-strength cap sheet membrane composed of a proprietary formulation of elastomeric SBS polymer modified bitumen and a composite reinforcement.
UNITS PER SKID: 25
Material Use:
ELASTOPHENE HS FR GR is a high-strength SBS-modified bituminous roofing cap sheet membrane designed for use as the top layer in multi-ply roofing systems. It is specifically engineered to provide superior fire resistance, flexibility, and durability in both new construction and re-roofing applications. The membrane is surfaced with ceramic-coated granules for UV protection and aesthetic finish, and is ideal for use in commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofing systems.
System Components:
ELASTOPHENE HS FR GR is typically used as the cap sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed over a compatible base sheet or interply membrane, such as SOPREMA’s ELASTOPHENE or SOPRALENE base sheets. The system may include a primer (such as SOPREMA ELASTOCOL 500 or ELASTOCOL STICK) applied to the substrate to enhance adhesion of the base layer. Adhesives used for installation include cold-applied bitumen adhesives or hot-air welding for lap seams. The membrane features a sanded selvedge to facilitate lap adhesion and welding.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems on commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. It is designed for flat or low-slope roofs and is compatible with both new construction and retrofit roofing projects. ELASTOPHENE HS FR GR is particularly suited for applications requiring enhanced fire resistance and long-term weathering performance.
Application Details:
ELASTOPHENE HS FR GR is installed by unrolling it over a previously applied adhesive using a notched squeegee. Once positioned, the membrane must be pressed with a membrane roller to ensure full adhesion. End laps require adhesive application over the first 100–125 mm (4–5 in), followed by hot-air welding of the final 25–50 mm (1–2 in). All side laps must also be welded, and the use of an automatic hot-air welder is recommended for improved speed and consistency. The membrane is 3.5 mm (138 mils) thick and covers approximately 9.1 m² (97.9 ft²) per roll, accounting for side and end laps.
Special Notes:
- Fire Resistance: ELASTOPHENE HS FR GR contains a flame-retardant agent and meets fire classification standards per ULC-S107. Refer to UL directory TGFU.R11436 for system-specific ratings.
- UV Resistance: The ceramic-coated granule surface provides UV protection, making the membrane UV stable after installation.
- Temperature Limits: The membrane maintains flexibility down to -26 °C (-14.8 °F) and has compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F).
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover.
- Thickness Limits: Minimum thickness is 3.5 mm (138 mils), with a selvedge thickness of at least 2.7 mm (106 mils).
- Installation Conditions: While specific humidity and pot life details are not provided, standard SBS membrane installation practices apply—avoid installation during heavy rain or when surfaces are wet or frozen. Ensure ambient and substrate temperatures are above freezing for optimal adhesion.
- Coverage: Each roll covers approximately 97.9 ft² (9.1 m²), including allowances for side and end laps.
This membrane is part of a complete SBS-modified bitumen roofing system and should be used in conjunction with compatible base sheets, primers, and adhesives as specified by SOPREMA for optimal performance and warranty compliance.
