Description
Coating/Surface with Resistance to Strong Industrial Chemicals
KEMKO 005 is a two-component, solvent-free, epoxy coating designed for environments with strong chemical exposure. It is ideal for use in sewer and wastewater treatment plants, secondary containment facilities, and industrial applications requiring chemical resistance and slip resistance.
· Base Coat / Main Material: KEMKO 005 epoxy resin and hardener (mixed at a 2:1 volume ratio)
· Surface Texture Additive (optional): Aggregate (e.g., #20x40 or #30x50 mesh) broadcasted at 0.75 – 1.5 lbs/sq ft
· Primers: Not specified; designed to bond directly to properly prepared concrete, masonry, steel, and wood
Used for coating and surfacing of concrete, masonry, steel, and wood, both in dry and damp conditions. Common applications include protective coatings for containment areas and industrial floors exposed to acids, bases, oils, and automotive fluids.
· Application Methods: Brush, roller, squeegee, or two-component spray equipment
· Thickness: 6–8 mils per coat; minimum two coats recommended
· Coverage:
o Coating: 100–133 sq ft/gal for two coats
o Surfacing: 54–80 sq ft/gal
· Curing Times:
o Touch dry: ~6.5 hours @ 70°F
o Recoat: 2–72 hours depending on temperature (2 hrs @ 90°F; 4 hrs @ 73°F; 8 hrs @ 60°F)
· Pot Life: ~35 minutes for 200 g mix
· Temperature Range:
o Minimum substrate/application temperature: 50°F
o Must apply after peak daily substrate temperature
· UV Resistance: Not UV stable – will chalk when exposed to sunlight
· Surface Preparation: Must be clean, sound, free of bond-inhibiting substances; conforms to ASTM D4259 or ACI 503R
· Mixing: Thorough mixing of Part A and Part B using low-speed drill and Jiffy mixer for 2–3 minutes
· Substrates must have vapor barriers if on/below grade to prevent blistering
· Galvanized steel and aluminum require special prep
· Material must not be thinned with solvents
· 100% solids, VOC-free formula
· Excellent resistance to a range of chemicals including dilute acids/bases and various hydrocarbons, but limited resistance to hydrocarbon solvents
· Storage: Shelf life of at least three years in sealed containers stored between 50°F and 90°F
