Description

Epoxy High Build Coating for Marine Structures

Material Use:

KEMKO 048 is a high-build, two-component, solvent-free epoxy coating designed for protective applications on marine structures. It is formulated for use above and below the waterline on concrete, steel, and wood in both salt and fresh water environments.

System Components:

This product consists of two parts: Part A (epoxy resin) and Part B (hardener), mixed in a 2:1 volume ratio. It does not require additional primers or topcoats when used within its intended applications. Custom color options are available, though standard usage includes an off-white base coat and a concrete gray (blue gray) top coat.

Applications:

Typical applications include coating of concrete piers, seawalls, docks, drainage ditches, abutments, sewer and outfall pipes; protection of steel structures like pilings, rigs, platforms, ship hulls, and bulkheads; and coating of wooden structures such as pilings, piers, shelters, and power poles.

Application Details:

·      Surface Preparation: Surfaces may be dry, damp, wet, immersed, or submerged but must be clean and free of bond-inhibiting substances. Sandblasting is recommended.

·      Mixing: Mix Part A and B at 2:1 (vol) thoroughly for 2-3 minutes with a low-speed drill. Do not mix underwater.

·      Installation:

o   Above Waterline: Apply using standard techniques once the substrate temperature has peaked.

o   Below Waterline: Use a brush with deliberate motion and pressure to displace water.

·      Coverage: Approx. 200–350 lineal feet per gallon in crack sealing applications.

·      Viscosity: Mixed viscosity is approximately 625 poise.

·      Color: Off-white when mixed; top coat is blue gray.

Special Notes:

·      Pot Life: 25 minutes (200g mass at 68°F).

·      Curing Times: Soft gel in 2.5 hours, hard gel in 3.0 hours, full cure in 3 days at 68°F.

·      Temperature Limits: Application and curing should not be done below 50°F substrate temperature.

·      UV Stability: The cured surface is water-resistant and impervious but may chalk upon UV exposure (not UV stable).

·      Storage & Shelf Life: At least 3 years in unopened containers stored between 60–90°F in dry, shaded areas.

·      Environmental Tolerance: Bonds to wet, immersed, and submerged surfaces. Freeze-thaw resistant.

·      Limitations: Not resistant to wave action until hardened; limited resistance to hydrocarbon solvents.
