Description

Flexible Epoxy Utility Coating/Surfacing

Material Use

KEMKO 064 is a two-component, solvent-free, flexible epoxy coating primarily used as a protective surfacing for impact, abrasion, and skid resistance. It is also suitable for bonding precast concrete curbing to concrete and asphalt pavements, and for use on steel decks and other dry substrates.

System Components

This material consists of two parts: Part A (epoxy resin) and Part B (hardener), mixed in a 1:1 ratio by volume (100:79 by weight). It can be applied as a single or multiple coat system and may incorporate aggregates for enhanced slip resistance.

Applications

KEMKO 064 is ideal for application on dry concrete, masonry, stone, asphalt, and steel surfaces. It is particularly effective for pedestrian or vehicular traffic areas requiring high skid resistance and durability, and where resistance to water and common industrial chemicals is critical.

Application Details

·      Installation Temperature: Minimum 50°F for both application and curing.

·      Surface Preparation: Substrates must be clean, dry, and structurally sound. Specific prep includes abrading concrete per ASTM D 4259 or ACI 503R, and cleaning asphalt with detergent and high-pressure rinse.

·      Mixing Instructions: Blend Part A and B thoroughly for 2–3 minutes using a low-speed mixer (350–750 rpm).

·      Pot Life: Gel time is approximately 16 minutes for 200g at 73°F.

·      Application Tools: V-notch trowel or squeegee.

·      Aggregate Addition: Apply aggregate (size #6x12 or #8x16 mesh) within 15 minutes of coating, at a rate of 1.25–1.75 lb/sq ft.

·      Recoating Window: Apply subsequent coats within 3–6 hours (tacky to tack-free time) to avoid excessive cure delays.

Special Notes

·      Cure Time: Initial cure is 18–36 hours at a minimum of 50°F. Full cure under standard conditions (73°F) is reached in 7 days.

·      UV Stability: The cured coating is resistant to embrittlement from sunlight exposure, though not specifically described as UV stable.

·      Chemical Resistance: Offers resistance to most automotive and aircraft chemicals including jet fuels, gasoline, and battery acid. Limited resistance to hydrocarbon solvents.

·      Coverage and Thickness: Coverage ranges from 25–40 sq ft/gal depending on thickness (40–65 mils wet film thickness).

·      Shelf Life: Minimum three years when stored between 50°F and 90°F in original, unopened containers.

·      Environmental Limitations: Substrate must be dry and above grade or have a vapor barrier in place to prevent blistering or delamination. Not to be thinned or diluted.

·      Cleanup: Use acetone or epoxy stripper before the material cures.
