Description

Epoxy Binder for Industrial and Institutional Flooring

Material Use

KEMKO 082 GP is a two-component, solvent-free epoxy binder used as a primer and binder for interior surfacing and repair mortars in industrial and institutional flooring systems. It is designed to deliver impact, abrasion, and chemical resistance in demanding environments such as manufacturing plants, warehouses, and food processing facilities.

System Components

The system includes a two-part binder mixed in a 2:1 ratio by volume (Part A:Part B). This binder can be blended with various grades of high silica sand aggregates to create multi-layer broadcast, self-leveling, slurry, or trowel-compacted systems. Recommended aggregate sizes vary based on application: #20x40 or #30x50 mesh for broadcast, blended fine and coarse mesh for self-leveling and screed applications.

Applications

Typical applications include heavy-duty industrial floors subject to forklift and steel wheel traffic, areas requiring resistance to impact, abrasion, and chemical exposure, and locations needing surface repairs such as filling shallow depressions, spalling, or sloping to drains.

Application Details

·      Priming: Use neat KEMKO 082 GP as a primer at 8–10 mils thickness (160–200 sq ft/gal). Apply with brush, roller, or airless spray.

·      System Build:

o   Broadcast: multiple layers with 20–30 mils of binder plus broadcast aggregate, optional topcoat.

o   Self-leveling: approx. 1/8 inch thickness.

o   Slurry: approx. 3/8 inch thickness.

o   Trowel-applied: approx. 1/4 inch, usually without broadcast or topcoat.

·      Mixing: Components must be mixed for 2–3 minutes with low-speed mixing, followed by gradual aggregate addition and additional mixing.

Special Notes

·      Temperature Limits: Application and curing must occur at substrate temperatures between 50°F and 90°F.

·      Pot Life: Approx. 25 minutes for a 1-quart mix at room temperature.

·      Cure Time: Minimum substrate temperature for curing is 50°F; full cure recommended before exposure to chemicals and mechanical abuse.

·      UV Resistance: Not specified; intended for interior use.

·      Thickness Limits: Up to approximately 1.5 inches per lift for mortars.

·      Coverage: As primer: 160–200 sq ft/gal. Coverage as binder varies based on aggregate mix.

·      Chemical Resistance: Excellent against water, detergents, beverages, fuel oils, and weak acids/alkalis. Limited resistance to strong organic acids and hydrocarbon solvents; performance depends on exposure duration and conditions.

·      Shelf Life: Minimum three years in unopened containers stored between 60°F and 90°F.
