Description
Coating – Structural Epoxy Adhesive Primer for Polymer Coating & Flooring Systems
KEMKO 141 QuikPrime is a clear amber, two-component, solvent-free, low-viscosity structural epoxy adhesive primer. It is designed for professional application and is available exclusively to KEMKO certified applicators.
This product functions as a primer to enhance adhesion between polymer coatings—such as epoxies, polyaspartics, polyureas, and polyurethanes—and properly prepared substrates including dry, damp, wet concrete (free of standing water), fresh plastic concrete (after 24 hours), and steel surfaces.
KEMKO 141 QuikPrime is used within a multi-layer polymer coating system. It serves as the base primer and must be used before applying other compatible coatings like epoxies or polyureas. It is essential in systems where strong adhesion to the substrate is critical, such as in structural repair or waterproofing systems.
Recommended for priming surfaces prior to the installation of flooring systems, control joint sealers, elastomeric grouts, and surface coatings. It is particularly suited for damp conditions and can also be used to prime fresh (green) concrete and steel before epoxy bonding applications or structural repair.
The primer must be applied to properly prepared surfaces that meet ICRI CSP 2–4 profile. Concrete must achieve at least 250 psi in direct tension. For steel, surfaces should be white-metal blasted per SSPC-SP5/NACE No. 1. The product mixes at a 2:1 (vol.) ratio and has a pot life of approximately 15 minutes. Application can be done using a V-notch trowel, roller, squeegee, or spray for larger areas. The coverage is approximately 160–200 ft² per gallon depending on surface texture. Recoat window is 24 hours at 75°F (24°C), and varies with temperature. A bond line thickness of at least 15 mils is required for fresh to hardened concrete bonding. Can be extended with aggregate for repair mortars or trowel applications.
· Cure Times: Vary by temperature – 4 hours at 50°F, 1.5 hours at 73°F, and 0.75 hours at 90°F.
· Environmental Limits: Installation temperature must be ≥35°F (2°C). In-service temperature should remain at least 20°F below the heat deflection temperature of 135°F (57°C).
· Chemical Resistance: High resistance to many chemicals (acids, bases, fuels, oils), but limited against hydrocarbon solvents.
· VOC: Contains no volatile organic compounds.
· UV Stability: Not UV-rated—typically covered by subsequent UV-stable coatings.
· Aggregate Use: Can be extended with sand for patching; yields 500 in³ when mixed with 2 gallons of aggregate per gallon of resin.
· Packaging: Available in 3, 15, and 150-gallon kits.
· Storage: Shelf life is 3 years in unopened containers stored between 50–90°F in a dry place.
