Description
KEMKO 189 Polyurea SWL – Short Work Life, Polyurea Joint Filler Sealant and Mortar Binder. KEMKO 189 is a two-component, elastomeric polyurea used as a joint filler, sealant, and mortar binder for interior and exterior concrete applications. It is particularly suited for filling non-structural cracks, control joints, and saw-cut slots in concrete slabs, and as a binder for spall repairs and rebuilding concrete joint nosing.
· Part A: Liquid polyurethane resin (charcoal gray)
· Part B: Liquid epoxy hardener (reddish amber)
· Mixed Product: Charcoal gray elastomeric sealant or mortar binder
· Aggregate (optional for mortar use): Washed, kiln-dried, round or angular sand (20–60 mesh), pre-coated if needed for safety
· Filling control joints and saw-cut slots in concrete slabs
· Rebuilding damaged concrete joint nosing
· Repairing spalled or deteriorated concrete
· Vehicular and pedestrian traffic areas
· Use with or without closed-cell backer rods
· Mixing Ratio: 1:1 by volume (100:90 by weight)
· Pot Life (Gel Time): 12 minutes (100 g mass at 73°F / 23°C)
· Touch Dry Time: 15 minutes
· Hard Dry Time: 0.9 hours
· Installation Tools: V-notch trowel, squeegee, paint roller, or spray equipment
· Priming: Not required, but proper surface preparation is essential
· Surface Prep: CSP 2–4 per ICRI 310.2R; minimum tensile bond strength of 250 psi
· Yield (Joint Filling): Varies by joint dimensions. For instance:
o 1/8" x 1/8" = 1200 linear feet per gallon
o 1/2" x 1/2" = 75 linear feet per gallon
· Mortar Yield: One gallon extended with sand yields ~500 in³ of mortar
· Minimum Bond Line: 15 mils for plastic-to-hardened concrete
· UV Stability: Does not degrade in sunlight – UV resistant
· Temperature Range: Can be applied as low as -25°F (-32°C); apply after peak daily substrate temperature
· Thickness Limit: Mortar applications should not exceed 1.5 inches (38.1 mm) per lift
· VOC Content: Contains no VOCs
· Chemical Resistance: Excellent against acids, bases, deicing chemicals, and vehicle/aircraft fluids. Limited resistance to hydrocarbon solvents
· Color: Standard is charcoal gray; custom colors available
· Packaging: 2, 10, and 100-gallon kits
· Shelf Life: 3 years minimum in unopened containers (50°F–90°F storage)
