Description
The Poly-I-Gard™ 575FR Under Tile waterproofing system is a solvent-free, liquid applied, high solids, aromatic polyurethane, waterproofing membrane. The system utilizes an epoxy-polyamine primer, two coats of a solvent free aromatic polyurethane polyurea coating and a heavy grit sand aggregate.
Material Use
Poly-I-Gard 575FR Under Tile is a high-solids, solvent-free, aromatic polyurethane waterproofing system designed for use beneath tile pavers in wet and humid environments. It is suitable for areas prone to moisture such as kitchens, restrooms, shower pans, saunas, and steam rooms. This elastomeric system accommodates structural movement without cracking, resists embrittlement in cold and softening in heat, and protects against spalling and freeze-thaw damage.
System Components
This system comprises multiple components used in successive layers:
· Primer: Polyprime 2180SC (epoxy-polyamine)
· Joint Treatment/Base Coat: PC-260 (two-part polyurethane polyurea)
· Intermediate/Top Coat: Poly-I-Gard 295 (solvent-free polyurethane)
· Aggregate: 16-grit washed angular sand broadcast into the top coat to refusal
Applications
The system is intended for waterproofing under tiles, particularly in environments with continuous or intermittent water exposure. Typical applications include:
· Bathrooms and washrooms
· Commercial kitchens
· Steam rooms and spas
· Shower pans and under-tile substrates
Application Details
The installation process is divided into five phases:
1. Joint Prep: Prime joints/cracks with Polyprime 2180SC, apply PC-260 and Straight Jacket Tape, followed by a stripe coat of PC-260.
2. Priming: Apply Polyprime 2180SC at 300 sq ft/gallon, achieving ~5 dry mils thickness.
3. Base Coat: Apply PC-260 at 1.5 gallons/100 sq ft (~66 sq ft/gallon), achieving 24 ± 2 dry mils.
4. Intermediate Coat: Apply Poly-I-Gard 295 at 1.2 gallons/100 sq ft (~83 sq ft/gallon) for a 19 dry mil layer, followed by aggregate broadcast.
5. Final Steps: Allow curing, remove excess aggregate, and apply thin-set mortar for tile installation. A water test can be performed after 24 hours.
Special Notes
· Total System Thickness: Approximately 48 ± 2 dry mils (1215–1265 microns), excluding aggregate.
· Surface Requirements: Must not be applied over unvented metal pans, magnesite, asphalt overlays, or lightweight concrete. Only sound, properly prepared substrates are acceptable.
· Concrete Requirements: Minimum 3000 psi, 28-day cure, fine-broom finish.
· Temperature & Humidity: Apply only at temperatures ≥5°F above the dew point; avoid high humidity during application.
· Curing Times:
o PC-260 workable for ~20 minutes
o Cure time per layer ranges from 6–8 hours depending on temperature
· UV Stability: Not stated; intended for under-tile applications where UV exposure is not expected.
Cleanup: Use urethane-grade solvent
