Description
Polycoat Staingard™ 8072SC is an aliphatic polyaspartic, environmentally-friendly surface topcoat for waterproofing membrane systems. Polycoat Staingard™ 8072SC is quick curing and specifically formulated to be installed in thin film applications.
Material Use
An aliphatic, polyaspartic polyurea topcoat designed as a color-stable, UV-resistant, and durable final layer in waterproofing membrane systems. It is formulated for thin film applications and offers high tensile strength, quick curing properties, and excellent gloss retention.
This material is used as a final topcoat in waterproofing systems for a wide range of industrial and commercial surfaces requiring chemical resistance, UV stability, and durability. It is especially suited for environments such as food processing areas, cold storage, chemical plants, and industrial warehouses.
System Components
Polycoat Staingard 8072SC is used as the final topcoat in a multi-layer waterproofing membrane system. It must be used over a primer and potentially a pigmented base coat:
· Primer: Use Polyprime U before application of Staingard 8072SC if more than 12 hours have elapsed since the previous coat.
· Base Coat: If pigmentation is needed, apply Polycoat Staingard pigmented coat before the clear topcoat.
· Top Coat: Polycoat Staingard 8072SC (clear) should only be applied after the pigmented coat.
Applications
Suitable for application over concrete, steel, plywood, plastic, and masonry surfaces. Common uses include:
· Concrete decks
· Offshore oil platforms
· Pipeline barges
· Fertilizer and chemical plants
· Food processing facilities
· Pulp and paper mills
Application Details
· Mix Ratio: 1A : 1B by volume
· Coverage Rate: Approximately 1 gallon per 100 sq ft (0.41 l/m²)
· Recommended Application Methods: Phenolic resin core roller, high-pressure spray, or low-pressure cup gun
· Dry Film Thickness: 14 ± 2 mils
· Minimum Film Thickness: 5 mils (wet)
· Pot Life: 40–45 minutes at 75°F (24°C), 50% RH
· Curing Time: 2–4 hours per coat; light traffic allowed after 6 hours, heavy pedestrian traffic after 24–48 hours
· Surface Preparation:
o Metal: SSPC-SP6/NACE 3 with 2 mil profile
o Concrete/Masonry: SSPC-SP13/NACE 6 or ICRI CSP 3–5 with primer required
Special Notes
· UV Resistance: Fully UV-resistant with excellent gloss retention
· VOC Compliance: Available in various formulations (100–340 g/L VOC) to meet regional requirements
· Limitations: Do not apply to split slabs, buried membranes, sandwich slabs, unvented metal pans, magnesite, or non-structural lightweight concrete. Moisture-vapor testing is required for on-grade slabs.
· Environmental Conditions: Application should be done in dry conditions between 60–95°F (15–35°C). Avoid high humidity to prevent clouding or opacity in the clear coat.
· Shelf Life: One year in factory-sealed containers under recommended storage conditions
