Description
The Polydeck® 400 Pedestrian Traffic Deck System is a polyurethane, liquid applied, moisture-cured waterproofing system with a Class A Fire Rating on 3/4” (1.9 cm) or 21/32” (1.67 cm) plywood. The system utilizes an epoxy primer, two coats of an aromatic polyurethane basecoat and two coats of an aliphatic polyurethane topcoat.
Material Use
POLYDECK 400 is a liquid-applied, moisture-cured, polyurethane waterproofing and pedestrian traffic coating system. It is specially designed for pedestrian decks and offers superior resistance to chemicals, UV exposure, and freeze-thaw cycles. The system is Class A Fire Rated when applied on 3/4” or 21/32” plywood and is suitable for applications requiring high-performance waterproofing over occupied spaces.
System Components
The POLYDECK 400 system consists of:
· Primer: Polyprime 2180SC or Polyprime 21. For porous or outgassing concrete, Polyprime EBF-LV is recommended.
· Joint Treatment Paste: A mix of PC-440/440SC/440SF and PC-50 Accelerator.
· Base Coat: PC-440, PC-440SC, or PC-440SF (applied in two coats).
· Aggregate Broadcast: Dry, washed, rounded 20-mesh sand with 6.5+ Mohs hardness.
· Topcoats: First topcoat of Polyglaze 400FR/400FR-C/400FR-SC followed by Polyglaze 400/400C/400SC.
Applications
Ideal for use on balconies, patios, sun decks, walkways, stairs, and decks over occupied spaces. Can be used on both plywood and concrete substrates that meet preparation and strength standards.
Application Details
· Primer Application: At 1 gallon per 300 sqft, resulting in a 4 dry mils membrane.
· Base Coat Application: First coat at 3 gallons/100 sqft (33.3 sqft/gallon), followed by a second coat at 1.5 gallons/100 sqft (75 sqft/gallon), resulting in 33–48 dry mils and 16–22 dry mils respectively.
· Aggregate Broadcast: 100 lbs per 100 sqft into the second coat.
· Topcoat Application:
o Polyglaze 400FR: 1.25 gallons/100 sqft (80 sqft/gallon) giving 13–16 dry mils.
o Polyglaze 400: 0.75 gallon/100 sqft (75 sqft/gallon) giving 8–10 dry mils.
· Finished System Thickness: Total of 70–94 ± 5 dry mils excluding aggregate.
· Cure Time: Final cure before heavy traffic is 72 hours at 75°F and 50% RH.
· Pot Life: Mixed material (e.g., PC-50 and basecoat) must be used within 20 minutes.
Special Notes
· Substrate Requirements: Concrete must be at least 3000 psi and cured for 28 days; plywood must be APA rated exterior grade.
· Temperature & Humidity Limits: Application must occur at least 5°F above the dew point, ideally around 75°F and 50% RH.
· UV Resistance: Topcoats include aliphatic polyurethane for UV stability.
· Environmental Conditions: Not suitable for on-grade slabs, sandwich slabs, or surfaces with hydrostatic pressure.
· Recoat Window: Primer must not sit more than 12 hours before recoat; otherwise, surface needs solvent wiping and re-priming.
· Storage: All components have a shelf life of 1 year in factory-sealed containers stored between 60–95°F.
