Description

Polyeuro® 5502-F is a fast setting, rapid curing, 100% solids, flexible, aromatic, two component spray polyurea that can be applied to suitably prepared concrete and metal surfaces. It has extremely fast gel time making it suitable for applications down to -20°F (-28.89°C).

Material Use:

Polyeuro 5502-F — Two-Component Aromatic Polyurea Protective Coating

Polyeuro 5502-F is a high-performance, flexible, fast-curing polyurea coating designed for demanding protective applications. It is suitable for use over concrete, steel, wood, and various industrial substrates, offering rapid tack-free times and excellent elongation. It is typically used in environments requiring robust chemical resistance, thermal stability, and low-temperature application capability.

System Components:

This material consists of two components (Side-A Isocyanate and Side-B Resin) in a 1:1 volume mix ratio. The system must be applied using plural component, heated, high-pressure spray equipment such as the Graco Reactor series. It may be used as a standalone coating or combined with other Polycoat primers or repair materials (e.g., PC-260, Polyprime 21 with sand) as a system for surface repair and priming. For UV stability, a topcoat of aliphatic polyurethane or polyurea is recommended within 6 hours of application.

Applications:

Ideal for cold storage facilities, fertilizer and food processing plants, landfill containment, marine and mining environments, power plants, paper mills, parking decks, structural steel, wastewater treatment plants, and secondary containment systems. It is USDA compliant and suitable for both industrial and commercial environments requiring zero VOC and seamless finishes.

Application Details:

Polyeuro 5502-F is applied using spray equipment at minimum 2000 psi and >150°F (66°C). It should be applied at ambient temperatures between -20°F and 120°F depending on substrate conditions, with surface temperature at least 5°F above the dew point. Application thickness is variable, and the theoretical coverage is 1 gallon per 1600 square feet per mil thickness. The tack-free time is 10–15 seconds, and the pot life is extremely short—4 to 8 seconds at 150°F. The recoat window is 0 to 6 hours.

Special Notes:

·       UV Resistance: Polyeuro 5502-F is not UV stable; discoloration and chalking occur under UV exposure. Apply an aliphatic topcoat for UV stability and color retention.

·       Temperature & Humidity Limits: Can be applied in temperatures as low as -20°F (-28.89°C) and is relatively moisture-insensitive.

·       Pot Life: 4–8 seconds

·       Curing: Tack free in under 60 seconds, full cure details not specified but fast recoat time (0–6 hrs).

·       Application Thickness: Unlimited in theory, but uniform spraying is recommended.

·       Substrate Prep: For concrete, shotblasting and pH testing (8.0–11.0) are required; for metals, SSPC-SP10/NACE 2 preparation and priming are necessary; fiberglass, wood, plastic, and other surfaces require specific preps and sometimes adhesion testing.

·       Storage: Store at 60–95°F (15–35°C), avoid freezing, 1-year shelf life.
