Description
Polyeuro® 5602 is a fast setting, rapid curing, 100% solids, flexible, aromatic, two component, spray polyurea that can be applied to suitably prepared concrete and metal surfaces. Its extremely fast gel time makes it suitable for applications down to -20°F (29°C).
Material Use
Polyeuro 5602 – Two Component Aromatic Polyurea Protective Coating
Polyeuro 5602 is a fast-setting, rapid-curing, 100% solids, aromatic polyurea coating used for protecting concrete, steel, and other structurally sound substrates. It provides excellent flexibility, chemical resistance, and thermal stability, making it ideal for industrial, marine, and containment environments.
System Components
· Base Coating: Polyeuro 5602 itself serves as both a base and build layer.
· Primer Options:
o For deteriorated concrete: PC-260 or Polyprime 21 mixed with sand as a repair layer, then primer is applied before Polyeuro 5602.
o For metals: Prime and apply Polyeuro 5602 the same day as surface prep to prevent flash rusting.
o For stainless steel and aluminum: Contact Polycoat for appropriate primer.
· Topcoat (optional for UV stability): An aliphatic polyurethane or polyurea coating may be applied within 12 hours for colorfast and UV-resistant finish.
Applications
Suitable for a variety of environments including:
· Cold storage facilities, food processing plants
· Marine and mining operations
· Secondary containment areas
· Structural steel, dump trucks, warehouse floors, and water treatment plants.
Application Details
· Mix Ratio: 1A:1B by volume
· Pot Life: 2–4 seconds at 150°F
· Tack Free Time: 15–30 seconds
· Recoat Window: 0–6 hours
· Spray Requirements: Heated, high-pressure, plural component spray equipment at ≥2000 psi and >150°F (65°C)
· Surface Temperature: At least 5°F (3°C) above dew point during application
· Coverage: 1 mil thickness = 1600 sq ft/gal (use estimation formula based on desired mil thickness)
· Recommended Substrate Prep:
o Concrete: Shotblasting to CSP 3–5; clean, dry, pH 8.0–11.0
o Steel: Near White Metal Blast (SSPC-SP10/NACE 2)
o Other materials: Adhesion testing often required.
Special Notes
· UV Stability: Not UV-stable – will yellow and chalk unless topcoated
· Temperature Tolerance: Dry service -40°F to 250°F; Wet service 40°F to 120°F
· Shore Hardness: 60 ± 5 Shore D
· Elongation: 275%
· Thickness: Can be built up in multiple passes to desired mil thickness without sagging; no strict max/min noted, but thickness control depends on application needs.
· Shelf Life: 6 months in unopened containers stored between 60–95°F
· Storage: Avoid freezing; keep containers fitted with desiccant devices when open
