Description
Polyglaze® AL-50/50SC is an economical, aliphatic, single component, liquid applied, moisture cured, polyurethane coating.
Material Use
Polyglaze AL-50/50SC is a single-component, moisture-cured, liquid-applied aliphatic polyurethane topcoat used for protective and decorative finishes on pedestrian and vehicular traffic decks. It is designed for use over concrete, metal, rubber, wood, masonry surfaces, and plywood, and is suitable for resealing existing polyurethane surfaces.
System Components
Polyglaze AL-50/50SC is typically used as a topcoat in polyurethane coating systems. For applications requiring recoating after more than 48 hours, it must be re-primed using Polyprime U to ensure adhesion between coats. An optional Polyglaze Hardener may be added to accelerate cure time.
Applications
· Vehicular and pedestrian traffic decks
· Concrete and plywood decks
· Metal, rubber, wood, and masonry substrates
· Resealing existing polyurethane surfaces
· Interior and exterior applications requiring UV stability
Application Details
· Coverage: 1 gallon per 100 square feet (0.41 L/m²)
· Dry Film Thickness: 13 ± 2 mils (330 ± 50 microns) per coat
· Mixing: Must be mixed with Polyglaze AL-50/50SC Catalyst; do not whip air into the material
· Tools: Squeegee preferred; phenolic roller or airless sprayer may be used with care
· Recoating Window: Must recoat within 48 hours; otherwise, surface must be solvent wiped and re-primed
· Curing Time:
o Standard: 16 hours at 75°F (24°C), 50% RH
o Accelerated: 6–8 hours with Polyglaze Hardener
o Light pedestrian traffic after 24 hours; vehicular after 72 hours
· Pot Life: Not specified but sensitive to temperature and humidity – mix only manageable batch sizes
· Temperature Limits: Apply and store between 60–95°F (15–35°C)
· Humidity: Cure time affected by RH; low RH slows cure, high RH accelerates it
· UV Stability: UV stable – suitable for exterior exposure
· VOC Content: Available in 100 VOC and 250 VOC versions to meet regulatory requirements
· Colors: Tint-white (with packs in Stone Grey, Dolphin Grey, Battleship Grey, Tan, Indian Sand, Ash Brown). Custom colors available with minimum orders.
Special Notes
· Polyglaze AL-50/50SC is highly sensitive to moisture and heat before curing; careful environmental control is needed
· Not suitable for split slabs, buried membranes, sandwich slabs, slabs over unvented metal pans, magnesite, or non-structural lightweight concrete without prior testing
· Clear versions may turn opaque in moist conditions
· Opened containers should be used immediately; do not dilute
· Surface may become slippery when wet; slip-resistance additives may be needed in some applications.
