Description

Polyprime® FMB is a clear, two-component,100 percent-solids, low-odor, low-viscosity epoxy primer that is specifically formulated as a moisture-barrier coating to treat new and existing concrete floors with high moisture and high pH. Polyprime® FMB can be used as a one-coat moisture vapor barrier coating suitable for various types of concrete.

Material Use

 Polyprime FMB is a two-component, 100% solids, low odor, low viscosity epoxy primer designed as a moisture barrier coating for both new and existing concrete floors. It is engineered to manage high moisture vapor emission rates and high pH conditions in concrete substrates. This product is ideally used as the first layer in flooring systems requiring vapor control.

System Components

 Polyprime FMB is typically used as a one-coat system to block moisture and is compatible as a base primer beneath various floor coatings. While the TDS does not specify particular topcoats, it is designed to be used underneath subsequent flooring systems such as epoxy, polyurethane, or polyurea coatings where moisture mitigation is required.

Applications

 This product is ideal for use in high-moisture environments including animal care areas, laboratories, institutional and pharmaceutical facilities, mechanical rooms, warehouses, manufacturing floors, loading docks, retail stores, multi-unit housing, and any installations where existing coatings show signs of concrete contamination.

Application Details

·       Mixing: Mix Side-B into Side-A at 70–80°F (21–27°C) for 2 minutes until uniform. Do not thin.

·       Tools: 3” brush, 3/8” nap phenolic core roller, flat rubber squeegee, and a low-speed drill with Jiffler blade.

·       Method: Pour mixed material in a ribbon, spread using a squeegee, and back-roll then cross-roll.

·       Thickness: Applied at 16 wet mils, with a theoretical coverage of 100 ft²/gal.

·       Pot Life: 10–15 minutes at 70°F (21°C), 50% RH.

·       Recoat Time: Minimum 12 to 24 hours.

·       Dry to Touch: 3–4 hours.

·       Curing: Full cure time is not provided; ensure proper drying and curing as per system requirements.

·       Surface Preparation: Requires ICRI CSP-3 profile; substrate must be clean, dry, and structurally sound.

Special Notes

·       Temperature Limits: Application temperature must be between 60°F and 90°F (16–32°C).

·       Humidity Limit: Relative humidity must be below 95%; floor temperature must be at least 5°F above dew point.

·       UV Stability: Not specified; not recommended as a final UV-stable topcoat.

·       Storage: Shelf life is 1 year when stored in original sealed containers between 50°F–110°F.

·       Clean-Up: Use xylene or approved solvent; observe all safety protocols.

·       Limitations: Not to be used as a grout coat over aggregate. Do not apply over standing water or when floor temperature or dew point conditions are not met.

·       Chemical Resistance: Excellent resistance to alkali, good resistance to solvents, organic, and inorganic acids.

·       Mechanical Properties: Adhesion >400 psi (ASTM D7234), Tensile Strength 7500 psi, Shore D Hardness 75–85, Water Absorption <0.1%.
