Description
Polyprime® H2O is a three-component, liquid-applied, water-based epoxy primer with low VOC, lowodor, unique penetrating characteristics, and rust-inhibiting properties.
Material Use:
Polyprime H2O – Three-Component, Water-Based Epoxy Primer
Polyprime H2O is designed as a primer for concrete and plywood substrates. It offers rust-inhibiting properties and is ideally used in flooring or coating systems where a low VOC, moisture-tolerant base primer is needed to ensure strong adhesion of subsequent coatings.
System Components:
Polyprime H2O is a three-part system:
· Side A (Resin) – Light amber color
· Side B (Hardener) – Dark olive/black color
· Potable water – Added during mixing (1.25 gallons for the 3.5-gallon kit)
This primer is commonly paired with polyurethane or polyurea topcoats, though exact compatible products should be verified based on the topcoat manufacturer's recoat compatibility and cure requirements.
Applications:
· Suitable substrates: Concrete and plywood
· Common applications: Under coatings for industrial floors, parking decks, and waterproofing membranes
· Applied using a flat squeegee and back-rolled with a 1/4” or 3/8” nap roller
Application Details:
· Coverage: Approx. 1 gallon per 300–450 sq.ft (7.5–11 mils wet film thickness) depending on surface porosity
· Pot Life: Approx. 1 hour at 75°F (24°C), 50% RH
· Cure Time: 3–4 hours at 77°F (25°C), 50% RH
· Recoat Window: Up to 48 hours; mechanical abrasion needed if this is exceeded
· Mixing Sequence Criticality: Incorrect mixing may lead to improper curing despite dry appearance
Special Notes:
· Environmental Conditions:
o Do not apply if ambient or substrate temperatures are below 41°F (5°C) or above 90°F (32°C)
o Substrate temperature must be at least 5°F (3°C) above dew point
o Max relative humidity: 85%
o Substrate moisture content must be ≤ 4% by weight (Tramex meter)
o Do not apply to frosted, wet, or damp surfaces
· Chemical Resistance: Offers corrosion resistance due to rust-inhibiting characteristics
· UV Stability: Not specified; this product is used as a primer and must be top-coated
· Shelf Life: 2 years in unopened containers stored at 60–95°F (15–35°C)
· Removal: Wet primer removable with MEK or xylene; cured primer requires mechanical removal
· Safety Considerations: Contains irritants and sensitizers in both resin and hardener components. PPE and ventilation are essential during application.
