Mortar Mix is a fast-setting, high strength structural repair material. Apply Mortar Mix from 1/2" to 6" thick. Use for vertical and overhead applications, including general and structural concrete repair, construction of pavements, stucco and plaster repair, underlayments and formed work. Conforms to: ASTM C387, C928.
Material Use:
Rapid Set® MORTAR MIX is a high-performance, fast-setting, multi-purpose repair material used for general and structural concrete repair, construction of pavements, stucco and plaster repair, underlayments, one-coat exterior plaster, and formed work. It is designed for vertical and overhead applications and performs well in wet environments.
System Components:
This product is a standalone blend of Rapid Set hydraulic cement and quality aggregates. It may be used with:
- Rapid Set® FLOW Control plasticizing admixture for increased fluidity and workability.
- Rapid Set® SET Control retarding admixture to extend working time.
- Rapid Set® Concrete Mix for applications thicker than 6 inches.
Applications:
Ideal for repairing concrete structures, forming pavement sections, stucco and plaster finishes, and general patching needs. It is suitable for both vertical and overhead use and can be used indoors and outdoors.
Application Details:
- Thickness Limit: 1/2" to 6" (1.2 cm to 15.2 cm); for thicker applications, use Rapid Set® Concrete Mix.
- Mixing Ratio: 3 to 3.75 quarts (2.8–3.5 L) of water per 55-lb (25-kg) bag for critical applications; up to 5 quarts (4.7 L) for general use.
- Mix Time: 1 to 3 minutes using mechanical mixer. Do not retemper.
- Working Time Extension: Use SET Control or cold water.
- Surface Prep: Clean, sound substrate, saturated with no standing water.
- Placement: No layered installs on flat work; place full-depth and progress horizontally.
- Finishing: May be troweled, floated, or broom finished.
- Temperature Range: Apply between 45°F to 90°F (7°C to 32°C).
- Humidity & Environmental Conditions: Avoid installation on frozen surfaces.
- Coating Times: Water-based coatings after 4 hours; solvent-based/impermeable coatings after 16 hours.
- Curing: Water cure for at least 1 hour post-hardening, maintaining moist sheen.
- Yield: One 55-lb (25-kg) bag yields approximately 0.5 ft³; one 25-lb (11.3-kg) yields 0.2 ft³.
Special Notes:
- Sets in 15 minutes and achieves structural strength in 1 hour.
- Non-metallic and chloride-free.
- Contains air-entraining admixtures in some regions for freeze-thaw durability.
- Shelf life: 12 months when stored properly.
- Environmentally friendly—emits significantly less CO₂ than portland cement.
- Not intended for extended exposure to temperatures above 212°F (100°C).
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) recommended due to risks of skin and respiratory irritation from cement dust.
- UV resistance not explicitly stated—assume protection measures may be needed if exposed.
