Material Use:
SOPRAFIX BASE 635 is a mechanically fastened SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. It serves as the base ply in SOPREMA’s SOPRAFIX roofing assemblies, providing robust waterproofing and mechanical resistance. This membrane is particularly suited for commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofs where mechanical attachment is preferred.
System Components:
SOPRAFIX BASE 635 is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed over insulation or cover boards using SOPREMA screws and plates. The system is completed with a compatible SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet, such as SOPRALENE or ELASTOPHENE membranes, which are torch-applied or adhered depending on the project requirements. End laps are sealed using SOPRALAP, a self-adhered membrane designed to reinforce and waterproof overlaps.
Applications:
This membrane is intended for use in mechanically fastened roofing systems over steel decks or other suitable substrates. It is ideal for new construction or re-roofing projects in commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. SOPRAFIX BASE 635 is compatible with various insulation types and is designed to meet Canadian CSA A123.23 Type B, Grade 3 standards.
Application Details:
SOPRAFIX BASE 635 is installed perpendicular to the steel deck ribs and mechanically fastened through the side selvedge at 150 mm (6 in) intervals using SOPREMA-approved fasteners. Fasteners must be placed in the upper part of the deck ribs. Preliminary fasteners are also required to secure insulation boards, with a minimum of 4 fasteners per 1.2 x 1.2 m (4 x 4 ft) board and 6 fasteners per 1.2 x 2.4 m (4 x 8 ft) board. The last 25 mm (1 in) of the side lap must be heat-welded using a propane torch. End laps are covered with SOPRALAP to ensure watertightness.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: Minimum membrane thickness is 2.5 mm (98 mils), with a selvedge thickness of 2.25 mm (89 mils).
- Dimensions: Available in 10 x 1 m (33 x 3.3 ft) and 15 x 1 m (49.2 x 3.3 ft) rolls.
- Reinforcement: Non-woven polyester for enhanced mechanical strength.
- Surface Finish: Thermofusible plastic film on the top surface and sanded underface.
- Temperature Resistance: Compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F); low-temperature flexibility down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F).
- UV Resistance: As a base sheet, SOPRAFIX BASE 635 is not UV-stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top and protected from direct sunlight and weather exposure.
- Installation Conditions: Ensure dry weather and appropriate substrate conditions. Avoid installation during rain or when ambient temperatures are below the membrane’s flexibility threshold.
- System Compatibility: Must be used with SOPREMA-approved cap sheets and accessories for full system performance and warranty compliance.
