Material Use:
SOPRAFIX BASE 640 is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. It serves as the mechanically fastened base layer in SOPREMA’s SOPRAFIX roofing assemblies, providing robust waterproofing and mechanical strength for commercial and industrial flat roof applications.
System Components:
SOPRAFIX BASE 640 is typically used as the base sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed with SOPREMA-approved mechanical fasteners (screws and plates) and is compatible with SOPRALAP STICK for sealing end laps. The system may include a cap sheet such as SOPRALENE or ELASTOPHENE membranes as the final waterproofing layer, depending on project requirements. DUO SELVEDGE technology on the side laps allows for immediate sealing, enhancing installation speed and waterproofing integrity.
Applications:
This membrane is intended for use on flat or low-slope commercial and industrial roofs. It is mechanically fastened directly to steel decks or over insulation boards and is suitable for new construction or re-roofing projects. It is particularly effective in systems requiring high wind uplift resistance and durability.
Application Details:
SOPRAFIX BASE 640 is installed perpendicular to the steel deck ribs using SOPREMA mechanical fasteners. Fasteners are placed every 150 mm (6 in) along the side selvedge, centered on pre-marked lines. On steel decks, fasteners must be installed on the upper part of the ribs. For insulation boards, preliminary fasteners are required at a rate of 4 per 1.2 x 1.2 m (4 x 4 ft) board or 6 per 1.2 x 2.4 m (4 x 8 ft) board, with adjustments based on wind uplift requirements. The last 25 mm (1 in) of the side lap must be welded using a hot air welder or automatic welding cart. End laps are sealed with SOPRALAP STICK membrane.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: Minimum membrane thickness is 2.5 mm (98 mils), with a selvedge thickness of 2.25 mm (89 mils).
- Dimensions: Available in rolls of 10 x 1 m (32.8 x 3.3 ft) and 15 x 1 m (49.2 x 3.3 ft).
- Reinforcement: Composite reinforcement provides excellent dimensional stability (±0.2%).
- Temperature Resistance: Compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F); low temperature flexibility down to -27 °C (-17 °F).
- UV Resistance: As a base sheet, SOPRAFIX BASE 640 is not UV stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover.
- Installation Conditions: No specific humidity or temperature limits are provided in the TDS, but standard SBS membrane installation practices apply (typically above 5 °C / 41 °F and in dry conditions).
- Coverage: Each 10 m roll covers approximately 10 m² (107.6 ft²), not accounting for overlaps.
