Material Use:
SOPRAFIX BASE 645 is a mechanically fastened SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. It serves as the base ply in a waterproofing system, providing robust protection against water infiltration and mechanical stress. It is particularly suited for use on steel deck roofing assemblies and is compatible with SOPREMA’s DUO SELVEDGE technology for enhanced lap sealing.
System Components:
SOPRAFIX BASE 645 is typically used as part of a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed as the base sheet and is mechanically fastened to the substrate. The system includes:
- Base Sheet: SOPRAFIX BASE 645
- Fasteners: SOPREMA screws and plates
- Lap Sealing: DUO SELVEDGE technology for side laps and SOPRALAP STICK membrane for end laps
- Cap Sheet (Final Coat): Typically paired with a compatible SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet (not specified in this TDS but commonly SOPRALENE or ELASTOPHENE series)
Applications:
SOPRAFIX BASE 645 is used in commercial and industrial roofing applications, particularly on steel deck roofs. It is suitable for new construction and re-roofing projects where a mechanically fastened base sheet is required. The membrane is designed to be installed perpendicular to the steel deck ribs and is ideal for use in systems requiring high wind uplift resistance.
Application Details:
- Installation Method: Mechanically fastened using SOPREMA screws and plates. Fasteners are placed every 150 mm (6 in) along the side lap, centered on the selvedge.
- Lap Sealing: The last 25 mm (1 in) of the side lap must be welded using an electric hot air welder or automatic welding cart. End laps are covered with SOPRALAP STICK membrane.
- Fastener Placement: On steel decks, fasteners must be installed on the upper part of the ribs. Preliminary fasteners are required for insulation boards at a rate of 4 per 1.2 x 1.2 m board and 6 per 1.2 x 2.4 m board, with adjustments based on wind uplift requirements.
- Membrane Dimensions: Available in 10 x 1 m (32.8 x 3.3 ft) and 15 x 1 m (49.2 x 3.3 ft) rolls.
- Selvedge Width: 100 mm (4 in)
Special Notes:
- Thickness: Minimum membrane thickness is 2.5 mm (98 mils), with selvedge thickness at 2.25 mm (89 mils).
- Temperature Limits: Low temperature flexibility is rated to -18 °C (-0.4 °F), and compound stability is maintained up to 121 °C (250 °F).
- UV Resistance: As a base sheet, SOPRAFIX BASE 645 is not UV stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover after removing the delivery packaging.
- Reinforcement: Non-woven polyester provides excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
- Puncture Resistance: Passes puncture resistance testing, ensuring durability under mechanical stress.
SOPRAFIX BASE 645 is a high-performance base sheet that forms a critical component of SOPREMA’s SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems. It must be used in conjunction with compatible cap sheets and accessories to ensure full waterproofing performance and compliance with wind uplift standards.
