Description
Base sheet membrane adhered with hot bitumen or mechanically fastened composed of a glass mat reinforcement coated with oxidized bitumen.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
SOPRAGLASS 100 is a versatile bituminous membrane designed for use in built-up roofing (B.U.R.) systems. It functions as a waterproofing layer, a vapour barrier, a vented base sheet in lightweight insulated concrete systems, and as a flame-stop membrane over flammable substrates. Its multi-purpose nature makes it suitable for a variety of roofing applications, particularly where hot bitumen or mechanical fastening is used.
System Components:
SOPRAGLASS 100 is typically used in conjunction with hot-applied oxidized bitumen as the bonding agent. It may also be used as part of a multi-layer B.U.R. system, where it serves as a base or intermediate ply beneath cap sheets or other protective membranes. When used as a vented base sheet or flame-stop layer, it is mechanically fastened and may be installed under other SOPREMA membranes or composite panels.
Applications:
- Waterproofing membrane in B.U.R. roofing systems
- Vapour barrier membrane adhered with hot bitumen
- Mechanically fastened vented base sheet in lightweight insulated concrete systems
- Flame-stop membrane over flammable substrates under mechanically fastened components
Application Details:
SOPRAGLASS 100 can be installed using two primary methods:
1. Hot Bitumen Application: The membrane is unrolled into a bed of hot bitumen applied with a mop. This method ensures full adhesion and is commonly used in traditional B.U.R. systems.
2. Mechanical Fastening: The membrane is mechanically fastened using specified fasteners, particularly in lightweight concrete systems or when used as a flame-stop layer.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: 1.5 mm (59 mil)
- Reinforcement: Glass mat
- Surface Finish: Sanded on both sides
- Dimensions: 20 m x 1 m (66 ft x 3.3 ft)
- Weight: 1.9 kg/m² (0.39 lb/ft²)
- Cold Flexibility: Can be applied in temperatures as low as -5°C (23°F)
- Softening Point: ≥ 85°C (185°F)
- UV Resistance: Not UV stable; must be protected by additional layers in exposed applications
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover after removing the delivery packaging.
Limitations and Environmental Conditions:
- SOPRAGLASS 100 is not designed for direct UV exposure and must be covered with a protective cap sheet or other finishing layer.
- It is not a liquid-applied product, so wet mil thickness and coverage per gallon are not applicable.
- Installation should be performed in dry conditions to ensure proper adhesion and performance.
- No specific pot life or curing time applies, as this is a pre-manufactured membrane applied with hot bitumen or mechanical fasteners.
SOPRAGLASS 100 is best used as part of a complete SOPREMA roofing system, where it can serve as a base or intermediate layer beneath UV-resistant cap sheets or other protective membranes.
