Material Use:
SOPRAGUARD TAPE is a specialized flame-stop membrane designed for use in waterproofing and roofing systems, particularly as a protective barrier during the installation of torch-applied membranes. Its primary function is to prevent the penetration of open flame into voids, holes, or gaps in the substrate, thereby enhancing fire safety during membrane application.
System Components:
SOPRAGUARD TAPE is composed of SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) modified bitumen reinforced with a glass mat. The top surface is sanded, and the underface is self-adhesive, protected by a silicone release film. It is used as a standalone accessory within a larger torch-applied roofing membrane system, typically in conjunction with SOPREMA’s torch-applied membranes.
Applications:
This product is used in roofing applications, particularly in areas where torch-applied membranes are installed. It is applied over voids, joints, or penetrations in the substrate to prevent flame intrusion during the torching process. It is suitable for use on concrete and plywood substrates.
Application Details:
SOPRAGUARD TAPE is a self-adhesive membrane and must be applied by removing the silicone release film and pressing the membrane firmly onto the prepared substrate. The substrate must be clean, dry, and free of dust or debris to ensure proper adhesion. No primer is required for installation. It is available in various widths (3 in, 4 in, 6 in, and 7.2 in) and comes in 65 ft rolls.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: 1.6 mm (64 mils)
- Weight: 2.1 kg/m² (0.4 lb/ft²)
- Reinforcement: Glass mat
- Surface Finish: Sanded
- Underface: Self-adhesive with silicone release film
- Low Temperature Flexibility: -35 °C
- Peel Resistance: 2,800 N/m on both concrete and plywood
- Elongation: 4% in both MD and XD directions
- Breaking Strength: 9.4 / 8.6 kN/m (MD/XD)
- Strain Energy: 0.9 / 1.0 kN/m (MD/XD)
Environmental and Application Limitations:
- SOPRAGUARD TAPE is not UV stable and should be covered by a torch-applied membrane or other protective layer after installation.
- It is designed for use in dry conditions; moisture or dust on the substrate may impair adhesion.
- No specific pot life or curing time is applicable, as this is a pre-formed membrane with self-adhesive properties.
- Installation temperature should be above freezing to ensure proper adhesion, although the product remains flexible down to -35 °C.
SOPRAGUARD TAPE is an essential safety component in torch-applied roofing systems, offering reliable flame protection and ease of installation. It is not intended as a standalone waterproofing membrane but as a complementary product within a complete SOPREMA roofing system.
