Material Use:
SOPRAJOINT is a high-performance waterproofing membrane specifically engineered for sealing and protecting expansion joints in various construction assemblies. It is designed to accommodate multidirectional joint movement up to 20 mm (¾ inch), making it ideal for dynamic structural elements. The membrane is suitable for use in walls, roofs, and foundations where joint movement and water ingress are concerns.
System Components:
SOPRAJOINT is composed of a 70 g/m² polyester fabric reinforcement embedded in SBS-modified bitumen. The underface is coated with a thermofusible plastic film to facilitate heat-welded application, while the top face features a central aluminium foil strip protected by a removable silicone release sheet. This configuration ensures both flexibility and durability in demanding environments. SOPRAJOINT is typically used as a standalone membrane for expansion joints but may be integrated into broader SBS-modified bitumen waterproofing systems.
Applications:
SOPRAJOINT is intended for use in waterproofing expansion joints in building envelopes, including vertical and horizontal surfaces such as walls, roofs, and foundation joints. It is particularly effective in areas subject to thermal expansion, structural movement, or vibration, where a flexible and watertight seal is essential.
Application Details:
SOPRAJOINT must be applied using heat-welding techniques to ensure proper adhesion and sealing. The protective silicone paper on the top face must be removed during installation to expose the aluminium foil, which contributes to the membrane’s durability and weather resistance. The product is supplied in rolls measuring 10 meters by 0.45 meters, with each roll weighing approximately 25 kg. The membrane has a nominal thickness of 4.0 mm.
Special Notes:
- SOPRAJOINT is designed to accommodate a maximum joint movement of 20 mm (¾ inch) in multiple directions.
- The product demonstrates excellent flexibility, with an ultimate elongation of 120% at 20 °C and 100% at -20 °C.
- It maintains performance in cold conditions, with a cold bending capacity down to -30 °C.
- The membrane has a fatigue resistance of 1,000 cycles without rupture, indicating strong durability under repeated movement.
- SOPRAJOINT is not UV-stable on its own; however, the aluminium foil top layer provides some UV resistance. For prolonged exposure, additional UV protection may be required.
- This product is not a liquid-applied membrane and therefore does not have a pot life or wet mil thickness. It is a pre-formed sheet membrane applied by heat welding.
