Description

Heat-welded cover membrane composed of a composite reinforcement and SBS modified bitumen.

UNITS PER SKID:

Depends on width:

9" - 120

13" - 90

Material Use:

SOPRALAP SP is a specialized waterproofing cover strip designed for use in roofing systems, particularly to seal the end laps of SOPRASMART ROCK SANDED panels. It functions as a critical component in thermal and vapour barrier assemblies, ensuring continuity and watertight integrity at panel joints.

System Components:

SOPRALAP SP is typically used in conjunction with SOPRASMART ROCK SANDED panels as part of a comprehensive SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. The system includes:

- Base Layer: SOPRASMART ROCK SANDED (used as a thermal and vapour barrier)

- Cover Strip: SOPRALAP SP (used to seal end laps of the base layer)

Applications:

This material is intended for use in commercial and industrial roofing systems where SBS-modified bitumen membranes are specified. It is particularly suited for applications requiring robust waterproofing at panel joints and overlaps, especially in multi-layered roofing systems.

Application Details:

SOPRALAP SP is installed using a heat-welding method with a propane torch. The underface of the strip is coated with a thermofusible plastic film that melts during torching to bond the strip securely to the substrate. The surface is sanded to enhance adhesion and compatibility with subsequent layers if required.

Special Notes:

- Installation Temperature Range: Not explicitly stated, but typical SBS-modified bitumen materials are best applied in ambient temperatures above 5 °C (41 °F) to ensure proper adhesion and flexibility.

- UV Resistance: SOPRALAP SP is not UV-stable and should be covered by a UV-resistant cap sheet or protected from direct sunlight.

- Thickness: Nominal thickness is 2.5 mm (98 mils) before heat conditioning and 1.8 mm (70 mils) after heat conditioning.

- Reinforcement: Composite reinforcement provides dimensional stability and strength.

- Flexibility: Maintains flexibility down to -27 °C (-17 °F), making it suitable for cold climates.

- Puncture Resistance: Passes standard puncture resistance tests, indicating good durability.

- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover to prevent UV degradation and moisture exposure.

Limitations:

- Humidity and Moisture: As with all torch-applied bituminous products, surfaces must be dry and free of moisture during application to ensure proper adhesion.

- Pot Life / Curing Time: Not applicable, as this is a heat-welded membrane and not a reactive or curing product.

- Coverage: Each roll measures 12 m x 0.33 m (39.6 ft x 13 in), covering approximately 39.6 linear feet per roll.

SOPRALAP SP is a critical accessory in SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems, ensuring long-term waterproofing performance at vulnerable lap joints. It must be installed by trained professionals using appropriate safety and application techniques.
