Material Use:
SOPRALASTIC REINFORCEMENT is a high-strength, inorganic woven glass fiber fabric designed to be used as a reinforcing layer in conjunction with SOPRALASTIC mastics or coatings. It enhances the mechanical properties of the waterproofing or protective coating system by providing dimensional stability, tensile strength, and resistance to tearing, rotting, and moisture absorption.
System Components:
SOPRALASTIC REINFORCEMENT is not a standalone product but is used as part of a system with SOPRALASTIC liquid-applied products. It is embedded into the wet mastic or coating layer to form a composite system that improves durability and performance. The system typically includes:
- Base Coat: SOPRALASTIC mastic or coating (specific product to be selected based on application)
- Reinforcement Layer: SOPRALASTIC REINFORCEMENT fabric
- Top Coat (if required): Additional layer of SOPRALASTIC coating to encapsulate the reinforcement
Applications:
This reinforcement fabric is used in waterproofing and protective coating systems for roofing, flashing, wall assemblies, and other structural surfaces where enhanced tensile strength and crack-bridging capabilities are required. It is particularly suitable for areas subject to movement or stress, such as joints, transitions, and penetrations.
Application Details:
SOPRALASTIC REINFORCEMENT is embedded into the wet SOPRALASTIC mastic or coating during application. The fabric must be fully saturated and free of wrinkles or air pockets to ensure proper adhesion and performance. It is available in two roll sizes:
- 0.15 m x 15.2 m (6 in x 50 ft)
- 0.91 m x 45.7 m (36 in x 150 ft)
The fabric has a nominal thickness of 0.127 mm (0.005 in) and a tensile strength of 14.9 kN/m (85 lbf/in) in both machine and cross directions. The open weave structure (20 threads per inch in both directions) allows for excellent resin penetration and bonding.
Special Notes:
- SOPRALASTIC REINFORCEMENT must be used with compatible SOPRALASTIC coatings or mastics; it is not suitable for use with other product lines unless specified by the manufacturer.
- The fabric is treated with 28% organic resin to improve compatibility and bonding with SOPRALASTIC products.
- It does not absorb moisture and is resistant to rot, making it ideal for long-term waterproofing applications.
- Environmental and application conditions such as temperature, humidity, and substrate preparation must follow the guidelines of the SOPRALASTIC mastic or coating being used.
- This reinforcement does not provide UV resistance on its own and must be encapsulated within the coating system.
This product is a critical component in SOPRALASTIC waterproofing systems and should be installed by trained professionals familiar with liquid-applied membrane systems.
