Description
Heat-welded cap sheet membrane composed of a non-woven polyester reinforcement and SBS modified bitumen.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
SOPRALENE FLAM 180 GR is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. It is primarily used as the top layer in torch-applied waterproofing systems for flat or low-slope roofs. The FR (Fire Resistant) version, SOPRALENE FLAM 180 FR GR, offers enhanced fire resistance for applications requiring compliance with stricter fire safety standards.
System Components:
SOPRALENE FLAM 180 GR is typically used as the cap sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is installed over a compatible base sheet such as SOPRASTAR, SOPRALENE FLAM 180, or other SOPREMA-approved base membranes. The system may also include a primer (such as ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL 500) applied to the substrate to enhance adhesion and ensure proper bonding of the base sheet. The cap sheet is then heat-welded to the base layer using a propane torch.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for new construction and re-roofing projects on commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. It is ideal for use in SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems where durability, flexibility, and weather resistance are required. The FR version is recommended for buildings where fire classification is a critical requirement.
Application Details:
SOPRALENE FLAM 180 GR is installed using a heat-welding method with a propane torch. The membrane is rolled out and bonded to the base sheet by melting the thermofusible plastic film on the underside. A 75 mm (3 in) selvedge ensures proper overlap and sealing between adjacent rolls. The membrane must be applied in dry weather conditions and on a clean, dry surface. Ambient and substrate temperatures should be above -10 °C (14 °F) during installation. The product is not UV-stable in its raw form but is protected by colored granules, which provide UV resistance after installation.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: Minimum thickness before heat conditioning is 4.0 mm (157 mils); after heat conditioning, it is 3.3 mm (130 mils).
- Reinforcement: Non-woven polyester provides excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
- Fire Resistance: The FR version meets enhanced fire resistance standards; consult ULC-S107 classification for specific system ratings.
- Temperature Limits: Low temperature flexibility is rated at -18 °C (-0.4 °F), and compound stability is maintained up to 121 °C (250 °F).
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover.
- UV Resistance: The granule surface provides UV protection; however, the membrane itself is not UV-stable without this protective layer.
- Installation Conditions: Avoid installation during rain or high humidity. Ensure substrate is dry and free of contaminants.
- Coverage: Each roll covers approximately 8 m² (86 ft²), accounting for overlaps.
This product is part of a complete SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen roofing system and should be used in conjunction with compatible base sheets and primers for optimal performance and warranty compliance.
