Description
Heat-welded cap sheet membrane composed of a non-woven polyester reinforcement and SBS modified bitumen.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
SOPRALENE FLAM 250 GR and its fire-resistant variant SOPRALENE FLAM 250 FR GR are SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet membranes designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. These membranes serve as the top layer in a torch-applied waterproofing system, providing long-term protection against water infiltration and environmental exposure. The FR version offers enhanced fire resistance, while a winter-grade version is available for cold-weather installations.
System Components:
These membranes are typically used as the cap sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. They are installed over a compatible base sheet such as SOPRASTICK or SOPRALENE FLAM 180, which acts as the base waterproofing layer. The system may also include a primer (such as ELASTOCOL STICK or ELASTOCOL 500) applied to the substrate to enhance adhesion of the base sheet. The SOPRALENE FLAM 250 GR or FR GR is then heat-welded as the final cap layer.
Applications:
SOPRALENE FLAM 250 GR and FR GR are used in commercial and industrial flat or low-slope roofing systems. They are suitable for both new construction and re-roofing projects. The granule-surfaced finish provides UV protection and aesthetic appeal, making them ideal for exposed roof surfaces.
Application Details:
These membranes are installed using a propane torch in a heat-welded application. The underface is coated with a thermofusible plastic film that melts during torching to ensure full adhesion to the base sheet. Each roll measures 8 m x 1 m (26 ft x 3.3 ft) and includes a 75 mm (3 in) selvedge for overlapping seams. The minimum membrane thickness is 4.0 mm (157 mils), with a minimum back surface coating thickness of 1.0 mm (40 mils). Installation should be performed in dry conditions and on clean, properly prepared substrates.
Special Notes:
- Temperature Limits: Installation should be avoided in extremely cold or wet conditions unless using the winter-grade version. The membrane maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F), and after UV weathering, down to -12 °C (10 °F).
- UV Resistance: The granule-surfaced finish provides UV protection, making the membrane UV stable after cure.
- Fire Resistance: The FR version (SOPRALENE FLAM 250 FR GR) is designed to meet enhanced fire resistance standards. Refer to ULC-S107 classification for specific system ratings.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover.
- Thickness Limits: Minimum thickness is 4.0 mm (157 mils) before heat conditioning and 3.3 mm (130 mils) after. Selvedge thickness is 2.9 mm (114 mils) minimum.
- Handling: Avoid puncturing or damaging the rolls during transport and storage. Granule embedment is limited to <2.0 g (0.07 oz), ensuring surface durability.
This product is part of a complete SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen roofing system and should be used in conjunction with compatible base sheets and primers for optimal performance. Always consult SOPREMA technical representatives for system-specific recommendations and installation guidelines.
