Description
High performance base sheet membrane composed of a composite reinforcement and SBS modified bitumen .
Material Use:
SOPRAPLY BASE 510 is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen base sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. It serves as the base ply in a built-up or modified bitumen roofing assembly, providing foundational waterproofing and reinforcement.
UNITS PER SKID: 25
System Components:
SOPRAPLY BASE 510 is typically used in conjunction with compatible SOPREMA cap sheets and may be installed over a primed substrate or insulation board. It is installed using hot bitumen (either SEBS or oxidized asphalt), which acts as the adhesive layer. The system may include:
- Primer (if required): Asphalt primer for improved adhesion to concrete or metal decks.
- Base Sheet: SOPRAPLY BASE 510
- Cap Sheet (Final Coat): SOPRALENE or SOPRAPLY cap sheets with granulated or film surfaces, depending on UV exposure and aesthetic requirements.
Applications:
This membrane is intended for use in roofing applications, particularly in multi-ply SBS-modified bitumen systems. It is suitable for both new construction and re-roofing projects on commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.
Application Details:
SOPRAPLY BASE 510 is installed by unrolling it into a bed of hot bitumen applied with a mop. The top surface is covered with a thermofusible plastic film that melts during installation to ensure proper bonding with the subsequent layer. The underface is sanded to enhance adhesion to the hot bitumen. The membrane includes a 75 mm (3 in) selvedge to facilitate side lap adhesion.
Special Notes:
- Installation Temperature Range: The product is designed for installation in ambient temperatures that allow for proper hot bitumen application, typically above 5 °C (41 °F). Avoid installation during rain or snow or when the substrate is wet or frozen.
- UV Resistance: SOPRAPLY BASE 510 is not UV stable and must be covered with a UV-resistant cap sheet or protective surfacing.
- Thickness: Minimum thickness is 2.5 mm (98 mils) before heat conditioning and 1.8 mm (70 mils) after heat conditioning.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be protected with an opaque cover to prevent UV degradation and moisture infiltration.
- Flexibility: Maintains flexibility down to -27 °C (-17 °F), making it suitable for cold climate applications.
- Puncture Resistance: The membrane passes standard puncture resistance tests, ensuring durability under mechanical stress.
- Dimensional Stability: Excellent dimensional stability with a maximum change of ±0.2%, reducing the risk of wrinkling or deformation over time.
SOPRAPLY BASE 510 is a robust and reliable base sheet membrane that forms the foundation of a durable SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It must be used in conjunction with compatible SOPREMA cap sheets and installed according to manufacturer guidelines to ensure long-term performance and waterproofing integrity.
