Material Use:
SOPRAROCK MD PLUS is a rigid mineral wool insulation board designed for use in roofing systems. It serves as a thermal and acoustic insulation layer and provides dimensional stability to the roofing assembly. The product is particularly suited for use under torch-applied, mop-applied, or adhesive-applied bituminous membranes.
System Components:
SOPRAROCK MD PLUS is typically used as part of a roofing insulation system in combination with SOPREMA’s bituminous waterproofing membranes. It is compatible with torch-applied membranes, mop-applied membranes using SEBS or oxidized bitumen, and adhered membranes using SOPRATACK or COLPLY EF adhesives. For mechanical attachment, it can be fastened with screws and plates. It is not compatible with self-adhesive membranes and should not be used as a structural deck or in areas subject to heavy traffic.
Applications:
This product is intended for use in commercial and industrial flat roofing systems where thermal insulation, fire resistance, and acoustic performance are required. It is suitable for new construction and re-roofing applications, particularly where compatibility with bituminous membranes is essential.
Application Details:
SOPRAROCK MD PLUS can be installed using several methods:
- Loose Laid: Simply placed on the substrate and held in place by the overlying membrane.
- Bitumen Adhered: Installed in a bed of SEBS or oxidized bitumen applied with a mop.
- Adhesive Bonded: Adhered using DUOTACK adhesives.
- Mechanically Fastened: Secured to steel decks using screws and insulation plates.
The number of fasteners or amount of adhesive required depends on wind uplift requirements and should be determined based on CSA A123.21 or FM 4470 standards.
Special Notes:
- SOPRAROCK MD PLUS is non-combustible with a melting point of approximately 1177 °C (2150 °F), making it ideal for fire-resistant assemblies.
- It has a compressive strength of 75 kPa (11 psi) at 10% deformation and 190 kPa (28 psi) at 25% deformation.
- The product has a thermal resistance of R-4.0 per inch at 24°C (75°F).
- Water absorption is less than 1.0%, and water vapor sorption is 0.29%, indicating good moisture resistance.
- It is classified for severe hail resistance under FM 4470 and meets Canadian fire standards CAN/ULC-S107-03 and CAN/ULC-S126-06, depending on the membrane used.
- The product must be protected from weather exposure during storage and installation. It should be stored at least 102 mm (4 in) above ground on a flat surface and covered with a breathable waterproof tarp.
- SOPRAROCK MD PLUS is not UV stable and must be covered by a compatible membrane immediately after installation.
- Each board measures 1.2 x 1.2 m (4 x 4 ft) with a thickness of 26.4 mm (1.04 in), and 40 boards are packaged per pallet.
