Material Use:
SOPRASEAL STICK 130 and SOPRASEAL STICK 130-S are self-adhesive SBS-modified bitumen membranes designed for use as air and vapour barriers on wall assemblies. These membranes are also suitable for use as through-wall flashing and for waterproofing membrane transitions in building envelope systems.
System Components:
These membranes are part of a system that includes a compatible primer and mechanical fastening accessories when required. The system components include:
- Primer Options: SOPRASEAL STICK PRIMER, ELASTOCOL STICK ZERO, or ELASTOCOL STICK H2O must be used to prepare the substrate before membrane installation.
- Membrane Options: SOPRASEAL STICK 130 (with thermofusible plastic film top face) and SOPRASEAL STICK 130-S (with sanded top face).
- Mechanical Fasteners: Metal bars are recommended at perimeters, transitions, and around openings when spray insulation is applied over the membrane.
Applications:
SOPRASEAL STICK 130 and 130-S are used in wall applications for:
- Air and vapour barrier systems
- Through-wall flashing
- Waterproofing transitions in wall assemblies
- Suitable for use on masonry, concrete, wood, gypsum, and metal substrates
Application Details:
- Installation Method: Self-adhesive application by removing the silicone release film and pressing the membrane onto a primed substrate. A hard roller must be used to apply uniform pressure for proper adhesion.
- Overlap Requirement: Minimum 50 mm (2 inches) overlap between membrane sheets.
- Application Temperature: Minimum installation temperature is -10 °C (14 °F).
- Surface Preparation: Substrate must be clean, dry, sound, and free of contaminants. Primer is mandatory before membrane application.
- Roll Dimensions: 10 m x 1 m (32.8 ft x 3.3 ft)
- Coverage: Gross coverage per roll is 10 m² (107 ft²); net coverage is 9.5 m² (102 ft²)
- Thickness: 2.5 mm (98 mils)
- Reinforcement: High-strength glass mat
- Top Surface: SOPRASEAL STICK 130 has a thermofusible plastic film; 130-S has a sanded surface
- Underface: Silicone release film
Special Notes:
- UV Resistance: Not specified; additional protection may be required if exposed to UV for extended periods.
- Compatibility with Spray Foam Insulation: When spray-applied insulation is used over the membrane, mechanical fastening (e.g., metal bars) is required at perimeters, transitions, and around openings to prevent delamination due to insulation curing.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover.

- Static puncture resistance: 90 N (20.2 lbf)
- Tear resistance: 25 N (5.6 lbf)

- Nail sealability: Pass (ASTM D1970)
These membranes are ideal for high-performance air/vapour barrier systems in commercial and residential wall assemblies, especially where cold weather application is required. They must be used with compatible primers and may require mechanical reinforcement when used in conjunction with spray foam insulation.
