Material Use:
SOPRASOLIN HD is a self-adhesive air and vapour barrier membrane designed for use in roofing and building envelope applications. It is particularly recommended for maintenance and repair work around penetrations such as vents, ventilation ducts, skylights, and chimneys. The membrane provides a durable barrier against air and moisture infiltration and is protected by an aluminum surface for enhanced weather and UV resistance.
System Components:
SOPRASOLIN HD is used in conjunction with ELASTOCOL STICK primer, which is required to ensure proper adhesion to the substrate. The system consists of:
- Primer: ELASTOCOL STICK
- Membrane: SOPRASOLIN HD (self-adhesive, SBS-modified bitumen with aluminum surface)
- Underface: Silicone release film (to be removed during installation)
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in both new construction and retrofit projects, particularly in areas requiring localized air and vapour barrier protection. It is ideal for sealing around roof penetrations and other vulnerable areas where air and moisture ingress is a concern.
Application Details:
- Surface Preparation: Substrates must be clean, sound, dry, and free of dust, grease, or contaminants.
- Primer Application: Apply ELASTOCOL STICK primer and allow it to fully cure before membrane installation.
- Membrane Installation: Position the membrane, peel back the silicone release film in sections, and press the membrane into place. Use a membrane roller to ensure full adhesion.
- Minimum Application Temperature: 10 °C (50 °F)
- Thickness: 1.0 mm (40 mils)
- Dimensions: 1 m x 10 m (3.3 ft x 32.8 ft); custom cut rolls available upon request
Special Notes:
- UV Resistance: The aluminum surface provides excellent UV resistance, making the membrane suitable for exposed applications.
- Flexibility: Maintains flexibility down to -40 °C (-40 °F), ensuring performance in extreme cold climates.
- Puncture Resistance: High resistance to both static (245 N) and dynamic (311 N) puncture.
- Air and Vapour Barrier Performance: Extremely low air permeability (0.00196 L/s•m²) and water vapour permeance (0.034–0.040 ng/Pa•s•m²), ensuring effective barrier performance.
- Fire Resistance: Passes NFPA 285 fire resistance testing.
- Nail Sealability: Passes ASTM D1970, ensuring self-sealing around fasteners.
- Storage: Store rolls upright and protect from direct sunlight if stored outdoors.
SOPRASOLIN HD, when used with ELASTOCOL STICK primer, forms a reliable and durable air and vapour barrier system suitable for a variety of roofing and envelope sealing applications, especially in areas exposed to weather and UV radiation.
