Description
High performance cap sheet membrane composed of a composite reinforcement with a surface covered with extra white highly reflective granules.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
SOPRASTAR FLAM GR and its fire-resistant variant SOPRASTAR FLAM FR GR are high-performance SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet membranes designed for use in multi-layer roofing systems. These membranes serve as the final waterproofing and protective layer in torch-applied roofing assemblies, offering enhanced durability, UV resistance, and energy efficiency due to their reflective surface.
System Components:
These cap sheets are typically used as the top layer in a multi-ply SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. They are installed over compatible base sheets such as SOPRALENE FLAM 180 or SOPRAISO insulation boards, depending on the system design. The underface of SOPRASTAR FLAM GR is coated with a thermofusible plastic film, allowing for heat-welded installation using a propane torch. No separate primer is required for the cap sheet itself, but primers may be used on the substrate or base layer depending on the system configuration.
Applications:
SOPRASTAR FLAM GR and SOPRASTAR FLAM FR GR are suitable for use in commercial, industrial, and institutional flat or low-slope roofing applications. They are ideal for new construction and re-roofing projects where a durable, fire-resistant, and energy-efficient roofing solution is required. The FR version is particularly suited for buildings with stringent fire safety requirements.
Application Details:
Installation is performed by heat-welding the membrane using a propane torch. The membrane is supplied in rolls measuring 8 m x 1 m (26 ft x 3.3 ft) with a 100 mm (4 in) selvedge for overlapping. The minimum membrane thickness is 4.0 mm (157 mils), and the mass per unit area is 4.6 kg/m² (94 lb/100 ft²). The surface is finished with high-reflective white granules, contributing to a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of 90, which supports LEED® credits for Heat Island Reduction. The product is UV-resistant due to its granulated surface and does not require additional UV protection.
Special Notes:
- Fire Resistance: The SOPRASTAR FLAM FR GR version offers enhanced fire resistance and complies with ULC-S107 standards. Refer to UL Canada’s TGFU.C.R19921 directory for specific system classifications.
- Environmental Conditions: The membrane maintains flexibility at temperatures as low as -30 °C (-22 °F) and has a compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F), making it suitable for a wide range of climates.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover after removing the delivery packaging.
- UV Resistance: The granulated surface provides excellent UV resistance, making the membrane suitable for exposed applications without additional coatings.
- Sustainability: With a high SRI value and CRRC-rated solar reflectance and thermal emittance, this membrane contributes to energy efficiency and sustainable building design.
This membrane is a key component in SOPREMA’s SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems and should be installed by trained professionals in accordance with SOPREMA’s guidelines to ensure optimal performance and compliance with building codes.
