Material Use:
SOPRASTAR STICK GR is a high-performance, self-adhesive cap sheet membrane designed for use in multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems. It serves as the top layer in a waterproofing or roofing assembly, providing UV protection, weather resistance, and high solar reflectivity. The membrane is surfaced with high-reflective white granules and is ideal for use in sustainable roofing systems where heat island reduction is a concern.
System Components:
SOPRASTAR STICK GR is used as the cap sheet in a multi-layer SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It must be installed over a compatible base sheet or substrate that has been primed with an appropriate primer. The recommended primer for this system is ELASTOCOL STICK, which ensures proper adhesion of the self-adhesive membrane. The system may also include a base sheet such as SOPRASTICK or other SOPREMA SBS base membranes, depending on the specific project requirements.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in commercial, industrial, and institutional roofing applications where a durable, reflective, and self-adhering cap sheet is required. It is particularly effective in applications where LEED® credits for heat island reduction are desired, thanks to its high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of 90. SOPRASTAR STICK GR is ideal for both new construction and re-roofing projects.
Application Details:
SOPRASTAR STICK GR is applied by removing the split-back silicone release film and pressing the membrane onto the primed substrate. A membrane roller must be used to ensure full and uniform adhesion. Side laps are sealed using DUO SELVEDGE technology, with the final 25 mm (1 in) of the side lap welded using a hot-air welder. End laps require cold adhesive application for the first 100–125 mm (4–5 in), with the final 25–50 mm (1–2 in) welded using hot air. The minimum application temperature is 0 °C (32 °F). The membrane must be applied to clean, dry, and debris-free surfaces.
Special Notes:
- Primer Compatibility: Must be used with ELASTOCOL STICK primer for optimal adhesion.
- UV Resistance: The membrane is surfaced with high-reflective white granules, providing excellent UV resistance and long-term durability.
- Thickness: The membrane has a nominal thickness of 4.0 mm (157 mils) before heat conditioning and 2.8 mm (110 mils) after.
- Dimensions: Each roll measures 8 m x 1 m (26 ft x 3.3 ft).
- Selvedge Width: 100 mm (4 in) with DUO SELVEDGE technology for enhanced lap sealing.
- Temperature Limits: Minimum installation temperature is 0 °C (32 °F). The membrane maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (0 °F) and after UV exposure down to -12 °C (10 °F).
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover.
- Environmental Performance: The product has a Solar Reflectance of 0.73 (initial), Thermal Emittance of 0.89 (initial), and an SRI of 90, making it compliant with LEED® requirements for heat island reduction.
- Puncture Resistance: The membrane passes puncture resistance testing and has excellent granule embedment resistance (<2.0 g loss).
This product is part of a complete SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen roofing system and should be installed by trained professionals in accordance with SOPREMA guidelines.
