Material Use:
SOPRASTOP is a Kraft paper-based vapour barrier specifically designed for roofing applications. It serves as a protective layer to control moisture migration and improve the overall performance of roofing systems by preventing water vapour from penetrating the roof assembly.
System Components:
SOPRASTOP is composed of two layers of high-strength Kraft paper laminated with asphalt. The edges are reinforced with unidirectional glass fibres to enhance tear resistance and mechanical strength. It is used in conjunction with SOPRASTOP ADHESIVE, which is required for sealing overlaps and can also be used to adhere the vapour barrier to the substrate. However, any roofing components installed above SOPRASTOP must be mechanically fastened, regardless of adhesive use.
Applications:
SOPRASTOP is suitable for use over clean and dry substrates such as metal (installed parallel to the flute), wood, concrete roof decks, or other compatible support panels. It is ideal for commercial and industrial roofing systems where vapour control is critical.
Application Details:
- Installation Method: Roll out SOPRASTOP over the substrate, ensuring it is clean and dry. Overlap all joints by 50 mm (2 inches) and seal with SOPRASTOP ADHESIVE.
- Adhesion: SOPRASTOP ADHESIVE may be used to adhere the vapour barrier to the substrate, but mechanical fastening is still required for all subsequent layers.
- Dimensions: Each roll measures 2.44 m x 78 m (8 ft x 256 ft).
- Weight: 0.17 kg/m² (3.5 lb/100 ft²).

- Water Resistance: 16 hours (ASTM D 779)

- Pliability at -10°C: Pass – no cracks (CAN/CGSB-51.33-M89)
Special Notes:
- SOPRASTOP is not UV stable and should be covered by subsequent roofing layers promptly after installation.
- It is a non-liquid product and does not have a pot life or curing time.
- Environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity are not critical for installation, but the substrate must be clean and dry.
- SOPRASTOP is part of a vapour control system and should be integrated with compatible roofing membranes and insulation systems for optimal performance.
- This product is not intended to serve as a waterproofing membrane or air barrier on its own.
