Description
Two-component, polyurethane-based adhesive with very low VOC content used to adhere SBS-modified bitumen membranes.
Material Use:
SOPRATACK is a two-component, odourless polyurethane adhesive designed for use in roofing applications. It is primarily used to adhere SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) polymer-modified bitumen membranes on low-slope surfaces (less than 3% or 3/8 inch per foot). Additionally, it can be used to bond insulation boards and support panels. For vertical surfaces or slopes greater than 3%, SOPRATACK FLASHING adhesive is recommended.
System Components:
SOPRATACK is supplied in two parts: Part A (hardener) and Part B (resin). These components must be mixed together prior to application. The adhesive is used in conjunction with SBS-modified bitumen membranes and may also be used with various insulation boards and coverboards. It is compatible with sanded, granulated, and gravel-surfaced substrates.
Applications:
SOPRATACK is suitable for commercial and industrial roofing systems, particularly for adhering SBS-modified bitumen membranes on low-slope roofs. It is also used for bonding insulation and support panels in roofing assemblies. It is not intended for use on vertical surfaces or steep slopes, where SOPRATACK FLASHING should be used instead.
Application Details:
Before application, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, dirt, or debris. The adhesive is prepared by pouring Part A into Part B and mixing with a low-speed mixer (200–400 rpm) for 4 to 5 minutes until a homogeneous consistency is achieved. SOPRATACK is applied using a 4.8 mm (3/16 in) or 6.0 mm (1/4 in) notched squeegee to ensure uniform coverage. The minimum application temperature is 0 °C (32 °F). For optimal results, the adhesive should be stored and conditioned at 10–30 °C (50–86 °F) for at least 12 hours prior to use.
Coverage Rates:
- Sanded surfaces, coverboards, insulation boards: 2.0 to 3.0 US gallons per 100 ft² (0.8 to 1.2 L/m²)
- Granulated surfaces: 3.0 to 4.0 US gallons per 100 ft² (1.2 to 1.6 L/m²)
- Adhesive and gravel surfaces: 4.0 to 5.0 US gallons per 100 ft² (1.6 to 2.0 L/m²)
Coverage may vary depending on surface roughness, application technique, and temperature.
Special Notes:
- Pot Life: Approximately 4 hours after mixing.
- Open Time: 60 minutes.
- Curing Time: 24 hours under ideal conditions (25 °C / 77 °F and 50% RH); longer at lower temperatures or with thicker applications.
- Storage: Can be stored for up to 12 months in original sealed containers. No strict temperature limitations for storage, but must be conditioned to 10–30 °C (50–86 °F) before use.
- VOC Content: 0 g/L (compliant with EPA Method 24).
- UV Resistance: Not specified; as an adhesive, it is typically covered by membranes and not exposed to UV.
- Cleaning: Tools and uncured adhesive can be cleaned with mineral spirits, Varsol, or Xylene.
- Safety: Store in a ventilated area, away from heat and direct sunlight. Refer to SDS for detailed safety information.
SOPRATACK is a high-performance adhesive that forms part of a complete SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It ensures strong adhesion and long-term durability when used under the correct environmental and application conditions.
