Description
Two-component polyurethane adhesive used to adhere SBS polymer modified bitumen membranes on flashings and slope surfaces > 3 %.
Material Use:
SOPRATACK FLASHING WINTER is a two-component polyurethane adhesive specifically formulated for cold weather applications. It is designed to bond SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) polymer-modified bitumen membranes to vertical flashings and sloped surfaces greater than 3% (3/8 inch per foot). For low-slope surfaces (less than 3%), SOPRATACK WINTER (a different product) should be used instead.
System Components:
SOPRATACK FLASHING WINTER consists of two parts:
- Part A (Hardener) – Brown-black liquid with a density of 1.00 kg/L (8.3 lb/US gal)
- Part B (Resin) – Brown-black liquid with a density of 1.25 kg/L (10.4 lb/US gal)
These components must be mixed together before application to form the adhesive system. The product is used in conjunction with SBS-modified bitumen membranes, typically as part of a cold-weather roofing system.
Applications:
This adhesive is used for adhering SBS-modified bitumen membranes on vertical flashings and sloped roof surfaces where traditional hot-applied or warm-weather adhesives are not suitable. It is ideal for winter installations where temperatures range from -10 °C to 10 °C (14 °F to 50 °F).
Application Details:
- Mixing: Pour Part A into Part B and mix thoroughly for 4–5 minutes using a low-speed mixer (200–400 rpm) until a homogeneous consistency is achieved.
- Application Tool: Apply using a 4.8 mm (3/16 in) or 6.0 mm (1/4 in) notched trowel.
- Coverage Rate: 3.7 to 4.9 US gallons per 100 ft² (approximately 0.037 to 0.049 Gal/ft²), depending on substrate and technique.
- Pot Life: Approximately 60 minutes after mixing.
- Open Time: 15 minutes.
- Curing Time: 1 to 7 days at -10 °C (14 °F) and 50% relative humidity. Curing time may be longer at lower temperatures or with thicker applications.
- Installation Temperature Range: -10 °C to 10 °C (14 °F to 50 °F).
- Humidity Considerations: Product performance is based on 50% relative humidity; higher or lower humidity may affect curing.
- UV Resistance: Not specified; typically, adhesives are not UV-stable and should be protected by membrane layers.
- Thickness: Applied as a uniform adhesive layer using a notched trowel; specific wet mil thickness is not provided but is controlled by trowel size.
- Surface Preparation: Substrates must be clean, dry, and free of frost, ice, oil, grease, debris, or dirt.
- Same-Day Installation: When used below 0 °C (32 °F), both base and cap sheets must be installed on the same day.
Special Notes:
- SOPRATACK FLASHING WINTER is part of a cold-weather SBS membrane installation system and should not be used on low-slope surfaces (<3%).
- No conditioning is required before use, and the product can be stored without temperature limitations for up to 12 months in its original container.
- Clean uncured adhesive with mineral spirits, Varsol, or xylene.
- Always consult the latest version of SOPREMA’s Roofer’s Guide or a SOPREMA representative for detailed application methods and compatibility with other system components.
