Description
Two-component, polyurethane-based adhesive used to adhere SBS-modified bitumen membranes. Winter grade.
Material Use:
SOPRATACK WINTER is a two-component polyurethane adhesive specifically formulated for cold weather applications. It is designed for adhering SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) polymer-modified bitumen membranes on low-slope roofing surfaces (less than 3% or 3/8 inch per foot). Additionally, it is suitable for bonding insulation boards and support panels in roofing systems. For vertical surfaces or slopes greater than 3%, SOPRATACK FLASHING WINTER should be used instead.
System Components:
SOPRATACK WINTER consists of two parts: Part A (hardener) and Part B (resin). These components must be mixed together prior to application. The product is used in conjunction with SBS-modified bitumen membranes and may be part of a larger roofing system that includes insulation boards, coverboards, and other SOPREMA roofing components.
Applications:
This adhesive is ideal for cold-weather roofing installations where temperatures range from -10 °C to 10 °C (14 °F to 50 °F). It is used to bond membranes and insulation to substrates such as sanded surfaces, coverboards, and granulated surfaces. It is not suitable for vertical applications or steep slopes, where SOPRATACK FLASHING WINTER is recommended.
Application Details:
Before application, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of frost, ice, oil, grease, and debris. Mix Part A into Part B using a low-speed mixer (200–400 rpm) for 4 to 5 minutes until a homogeneous consistency is achieved. Apply the adhesive using a 3/16 in (4.8 mm) or 1/4 in (6.0 mm) notched squeegee to ensure uniform coverage. The open time is approximately 1 hour. Pot life varies with temperature: 7 hours at -10 °C (14 °F) and 2 hours at 25 °C (77 °F). Curing time ranges from 1 to 7 days depending on temperature, humidity, and application thickness.
Coverage Rates:
- Sanded surfaces, coverboards, insulation boards: 2.0 to 3.0 US gallons per 100 ft² (0.8 to 1.2 L/m²)
- Granulated surfaces: 3.0 to 4.0 US gallons per 100 ft² (1.2 to 1.6 L/m²)
- Adhesive and gravel surfaces: 4.0 to 5.0 US gallons per 100 ft² (1.6 to 2.0 L/m²)
Special Notes:
- SOPRATACK WINTER is not UV stable and should be protected by a membrane or other covering.
- The product has a high solids content (90–94.5%) and low VOC (73 g/L), making it compliant with environmental standards.
- No conditioning is required before use, and the product can be stored without temperature limitations for up to 12 months in its original container.
- Clean uncured adhesive with mineral spirits, Varsol, or xylene.
- Always consult with a SOPREMA representative for complete application guidance and system compatibility.
