Description
Starter membrane composed of SBS modified bitumen with a surface covered with granules, which has a 100 mm (4 in) selvedge on each side of the membrane.
UNITS PER SKID: 30
Material Use:
STARTER FLAM GR is a high-performance SBS-modified bitumen membrane designed for use as a starter membrane in multi-layer roofing systems. It is primarily used in waterproofing applications for flat or low-slope roofs, serving as the initial layer in a torch-applied roofing system. Its granule-surfaced finish and thermofusible plastic underface make it ideal for integration with other cap sheet membranes.
System Components:
STARTER FLAM GR is used in conjunction with other SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen cap sheet membranes to form a complete waterproofing system. It features a non-woven polyester reinforcement for added strength and durability. The membrane includes 100 mm (4 in) selvedges on both sides to facilitate overlap and ensure watertight seams when heat-welded. It is not a standalone waterproofing solution but is designed to be used as part of a multi-layer system, typically followed by a compatible cap sheet such as SOPRALENE FLAM 180 GR or similar SOPREMA cap sheets.
Applications:
This membrane is suitable for use in new construction and re-roofing projects on commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. It is specifically designed to be the first layer in a torch-applied SBS-modified bitumen roofing system. It is ideal for use on flat or low-slope roofs where a durable, heat-welded waterproofing system is required.
Application Details:
STARTER FLAM GR is installed using a propane torch in a heat-welded application. The membrane must be applied to a clean, dry, and properly prepared substrate. The 100 mm (4 in) selvedge on each side ensures proper overlap and bonding with adjacent rolls. The membrane should be unrolled and aligned before torching to ensure straight and consistent seams. Installation should be performed by trained professionals familiar with torch-applied roofing systems.
Special Notes:
- Thickness: The membrane has a nominal thickness of 4.0 mm (157 mils) before heat conditioning and 3.3 mm (130 mils) after heat conditioning.
- Temperature Limits: The membrane maintains flexibility down to -18 °C (-0.4 °F) and has compound stability up to 121 °C (250 °F).
- UV Resistance: The granule-surfaced top layer provides UV resistance, making it suitable for exposed applications when used as part of a complete system.
- Storage: Rolls must be stored upright with the selvedge side on top. If stored outdoors, they must be covered with an opaque protective cover after removing the delivery packaging.
- Installation Conditions: The substrate must be dry and free of debris. Avoid installation during rain or when ambient temperatures are below the membrane’s flexibility threshold.
- Coverage: Each roll measures 8 m x 1 m (26 ft x 3.3 ft), covering approximately 8 m² (86 ft²) per roll, not accounting for overlaps.
- Compatibility: STARTER FLAM GR is compatible with other SOPREMA SBS-modified bitumen membranes and should be used as part of a complete SOPREMA roofing system.
This product is a critical component in SOPREMA’s torch-applied SBS-modified bitumen roofing systems and should always be used in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and local building codes.
