Description
Themecoat® Polyprime 130 is a two component, liquid applied, urea polyurethane primer.
Material Use:
Themecoat Metal Primer 130 is a two-component, liquid-applied, urea polyurethane primer. It is primarily used as a bonding agent on metal, glass-reinforced plastics, and polyurethane elastomeric surfaces, enhancing adhesion for subsequent coating systems.
System Components:
This primer consists of two parts: Side-A (clear liquid) and Side-B (off-white liquid), mixed in a 1:3 ratio by volume. It is typically used as the base primer in a multi-layer coating system. While the document does not specify topcoats, Themecoat Metal Primer 130 is intended to be overcoated with compatible polyurethane or polyurea-based coatings from the Polycoat product line once it becomes tack-free.
Applications:
It is intended for professional use on properly prepared substrates such as metal, fiberglass, and elastomeric surfaces. It serves as the preparatory layer in waterproofing, protective coatings, and industrial floor systems requiring robust primer adhesion.
Application Details:
Themecoat Metal Primer 130 should be applied using an airless sprayer, brush, or phenolic resin core roller. It must be applied at a rate of 1 gallon per 300 square feet (approx. 0.14 l/m²), yielding a dry film thickness of 3 ± 1 mils. The material should be mixed and applied within its pot life of 40–60 minutes at 75°F (24°C) and 50% RH. The primer must be applied at surface temperatures above 50°F (10°C), and it is sensitive to both heat and humidity. High humidity or temperature accelerates the pot life and curing; conversely, lower conditions slow it down. If the primer dries completely before topcoating, re-priming is necessary.
Special Notes:
· UV Stability: Not UV stable and must be topcoated appropriately to prevent degradation.
· Thickness Limits: Target dry film thickness is 3 ± 1 mils.
· Coverage: 1 gallon covers approximately 300 ft².
· Temperature and Storage: Both components must be stored above 60°F (15°C) and protected from freezing and direct ground contact. Shelf life is one year in unopened containers.
· Use Limitations: The material cannot withstand direct wear or abrasion and should not be exposed directly without a topcoat. Clean-up is difficult post-curing, and any unused mixture must be discarded if not applied within 20 minutes of mixing.
· Health and Safety: Contains isocyanates; use with appropriate PPE and ventilation.
