Material Use:
Viper Double Bond Tape is a high-performance, double-sided butyl adhesive tape designed for use in vapor barrier systems and other sealing applications. It is primarily used to seal seams and penetrations in vapor retarders, providing a water-resistant, airtight bond that enhances the integrity of the building envelope. The tape is ideal for use in below-slab vapor barrier installations, vertical wall applications, and as a self-sealing gasket alternative to caulks.

Viper Double Bond Tape is typically used in conjunction with other ISI Building Products materials such as Viper Vapor Barrier, Viper Vapor Tape, Viper VaporPatch, and VaporCheck Mastic. These components work together to create a monolithic vapor barrier system that isolates the slab from moisture sources below. The tape serves as a critical bonding and sealing element within this system.
Applications:
This product is suitable for use in residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects where a vapor barrier is required under concrete slabs or against foundation walls. It is especially effective in sealing overlaps, seams, and penetrations in vapor retarders, and can be used on a variety of substrates including OSB, plywood, aluminum, vinyl, and concrete. It is also compatible with most common building sealants and can be used in both new construction and retrofit applications.
Application Details:
- Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. Use a wire brush or primer as needed.
- Temperature Range for Installation: Apply at ambient temperatures above 41°F (5°C). For colder conditions, preheat the substrate to ensure proper adhesion.
- Service Temperature Range: -40°F to 300°F (-40°C to 149°C).
- UV Resistance: Viper Double Bond Tape is UV resistant for up to 6 months. For longer exposure, cover with a UV-resistant material.
- Installation Notes: Do not remove the release liner until ready to apply. Avoid leaving the tape uncovered for more than 8 hours after removing the liner. When mechanical fasteners are used, the tape will self-seal around them.
- Thickness: 23 mils (0.023 inches).
- Coverage: Each roll measures 2 inches wide by 90 feet long. One roll covers approximately 15 square feet when used in a single layer.
- Adhesion Strength: Peel adhesion ranges from 5.5 to 7.2 lb/in depending on the substrate.
- Nail Sealability: Passes AAMA 711-07 modified D-1970 standards.
- Mold Resistance: No mold growth per ASTM G-21.

Viper Double Bond Tape is a long-lasting, non-hardening butyl adhesive that remains flexible and effective for over 10 years. It is eligible for LEED compliance credits and meets ICC Acceptance Criteria 148 for weatherproofing. The tape is thermally stable and self-seals around fasteners, making it a reliable choice for demanding construction environments. Store the product in a dry location at temperatures not exceeding 100°F (38°C), and keep it in its original packaging until use.
