Description

Water-Based Catalyzed Epoxy is formulated for high-performance use in industrial and commercial environments.

Material Use:

Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy is a high-performance, two-component, water-based acrylic epoxy coating designed for industrial and commercial environments. It is formulated to provide excellent chemical resistance, impact and abrasion resistance, and washability. It is suitable for use in USDA-inspected facilities and is ideal for both new construction and maintenance applications.

System Components:

This epoxy system consists of two pre-measured components mixed in a 4:1 ratio (Part A to Part B). It may be used with various primers and surface conditioners depending on the substrate. For enhanced durability and aesthetics, a topcoat such as Pro Industrial Water Based Acrolon 100 may be applied, especially in exterior or UV-exposed environments.

Applications:

Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy is recommended for use on properly prepared steel, galvanized and aluminum surfaces, concrete and masonry, wood, drywall, and previously painted surfaces. It is commonly used in hospitals, schools, pharmaceutical facilities, institutional kitchens, manufacturing plants, storage tanks and piping, structural steel, and general new construction.

Application Details:

- Mixing Ratio: 4 parts Part A to 1 part Part B by volume.

- Sweat-In Time: 30–60 minutes depending on temperature.

- Pot Life: 16 hours at 120°F, 36 hours at 77°F, and 48 hours at 55°F.

- Application Methods: Brush, roller, or airless spray (recommended tip size: 0.015", pressure: 2000 psi).

- Reducer: Water, up to 12.5% by volume if needed.

- Recommended Film Thickness:

- Wet: 6.5–8.0 mils

- Dry: 2.3–2.8 mils

- Coverage: 200–243 sq. ft. per gallon per coat.

- Dry Time (at 8.0 mils wet, 50% RH):

- Touch: 1 hour at 77°F

- Tack-Free: 2 hours at 77°F

- Recoat: Minimum 18–24 hours, Maximum 30 days

- Full Cure: 14 days at 77°F

- Temperature & Humidity Limits:

- Application temperature: 55°F to 100°F (air, surface, and material)

- Must be at least 5°F above dew point

- Maximum relative humidity: 85%

Primers and Compatible Systems:

- Steel: 1 coat Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer or Kem Bond HS, followed by 2 coats Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy.

- Galvanized Steel (rusted): 1 coat Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Primer, followed by 2 coats Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy.

- Aluminum and Galvanized (non-rusted): 2 coats Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy.

- Concrete Block (CMU): 1 coat Pro Industrial Heavy Duty Block Filler or Loxon Acrylic Block Surfacer, followed by 2 coats Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy.

- Smooth Concrete and Masonry: 1 coat Loxon Concrete & Masonry Primer or Loxon Acrylic Conditioner, followed by 2 coats Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy.

- Drywall: 1 coat ProMar 200 Zero VOC Primer, followed by 1–2 coats Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy.

- Wood (Interior): 1 coat Premium Wall and Wood Primer, followed by 2 coats Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy.

- Wood (Exterior):

- Standard: 1 coat Exterior Wood Primer, 2 coats Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy.

- High Performance: 1 coat Exterior Oil-Based Wood Primer, 1 coat Water Based Catalyzed Epoxy, 1 coat Pro Industrial Water Based Acrolon 100.

Special Notes:

- This epoxy is not UV stable and will chalk and fade when exposed to exterior environments without a topcoat. For exterior applications or where aesthetics are important, a UV-stable topcoat such as Pro Industrial Water Based Acrolon 100 is recommended.

- Surface preparation is critical for performance. All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants.

- For previously painted surfaces, adhesion testing is recommended. If adhesion is poor, additional surface preparation or removal of the old coating may be necessary.

- Do not apply immediately after rain or during foggy weather.

- VOC content is 159 g/L (1.33 lbs/gal), compliant with most regional regulations except SCAQMD and CARB SCM 2020.

- Shelf life: Part A – 36 months, Part B – 24 months.

- Clean tools and equipment with soap and warm water immediately after use.

This material is ideal for use in a wide range of commercial and industrial coating systems, particularly where water-based, low-VOC, and high-performance coatings are required. It can be integrated into multi-layer systems with appropriate primers and topcoats for enhanced durability and chemical resistance.
