CONFLEX Block Filler
Commercial strength block filler that lays down a great foundation for most masonry block surfaces, interior and exterior. It has an enhanced filling qualities that allows for application over spalled and deteriorated concrete surfaces. It is also high hiding and provides a smooth and uniform finish.
Material Use
ConFlex Block Filler is a commercial-strength acrylic resin-based block filler formulated specifically for precast concrete, concrete masonry units (CMU), and other masonry block surfaces. It is suitable for interior and exterior applications where surface uniformity and pinhole reduction are desired. Its primary function is to fill porous substrates, creating a smoother surface for subsequent topcoats.
System Components
This block filler serves as a base coat or intermediate surface preparation layer and must be used in conjunction with topcoats for protection and finish quality:
- Base Layer: 1–2 coats of ConFlex Block Filler (depending on substrate roughness)
- Final Coats (Topcoats):
- Architectural Applications: A-100, ConFlex Topcoat, Duration, Emerald, Loxon, SuperPaint (Interior or Exterior variants)
- Industrial Applications: Pro Industrial Acrylic, DTM, Multi-Surface Acrylic, Pre-Cat Epoxy, Urethane Alkyd, WaterBased Epoxy, WaterBased Alkyd Urethane
Applications
- Concrete, Cement, Masonry Surfaces: 1 coat of ConFlex Block Filler followed by 2 coats of appropriate topcoat.
- CMU, Split-face Block: 1–2 coats of ConFlex Block Filler followed by 2 coats of appropriate topcoat.
- Recommended for USDA-inspected facilities.
- Interior and Exterior use (note special requirements for exterior use below).
Application Details
- Application Methods: Brush, roller (½ to 1½" nap synthetic cover), or airless spray (2300 psi, .019–.031" tip, ¼–⅜" I.D. hose).
- Reducer: Not required – material is ready-to-use.
- Surface Preparation:
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free of contaminants, laitance, and loose coatings.
- Do not apply to damp, wet, or smooth/slick surfaces.
- Ensure concrete/mortar is cured for at least 30 days at 75°F.
- For high-pH surfaces (>9), use Loxon Acrylic Block Surfacer instead.
- Moisture Content: Must be ≤15%.
- Drying Times at 77°F, 50% RH:
- Touch: 2 hours
- Recoat:
- With itself: 1 hour
- With latex topcoat: 18 hours
- With alkyd topcoat: 48 hours
Special Notes
- Exterior Use: Requires topcoating within 14 days to avoid weathering degradation.
- Temperature Limits: Do not apply below 50°F.
- Not for use below grade or where hydrostatic pressure or immersion is present.

- Wet Film Thickness: 16 mils
- Dry Film Thickness: 8.1 mils
- Approx. Coverage: 75–100 sq.ft. per gallon
- UV Stability: Requires a topcoat for exterior durability and UV resistance.
- Shelf Life: 36 months (unopened).
- VOC Content: <50 g/L (0.42 lbs/gal), compliant with major VOC regulations including LEED v4/v4.1 and CARB.
- Water Vapor Permeance: 67.96 perms (ASTM D1653).
- Not suitable over existing coatings unless those are removed to a sound surface.
- Cleaning: Soap and warm water; compliant solvent flush for spray equipment.
